CCI's Alternative Break Volunteer Teams have been getting the job done this winter and spring! Completing environmental restoration, sustainable development, hurricane relief and human service projects in Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, as well as domestic locations in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Florida. Great teams from 27 universities have made it all happen!

Check out the reports on everything that happened just last week!

Last Week in Puerto Rico

Our amazing volunteers were hard at work, we worked with teams from North Carolina State University, Penn State Altoona, Penn State Scranton, and Marywood University. Together, we’ve rolled up our sleeves for:

  • Planting trees to restore wildlife habitat
  • Marine debris monitoring for NOAA
  • Transforming an abandoned school into a Community Center
  • Tutoring kids at the Boys and Girls Club
  • Building trails in the breathtaking El Yunque National Forest.
  • Assisting Community Agriculture in producing affordable and healthy food on the island
  • Learning about the causes of Puerto Rico's declining coral reef habitat

We have lots more to do as we build a better future for Puerto Rico, we need to keep the momentum going, Winter, Spring, Summer, or Fall.

CCI is ready to put your Volunteer Team to work on important projects in

Puerto Rico!

Last week Disaster Relief

"The crew from Washington U St. Louis donned helmets, earplugs, glasses, and chaps this past week, and cleared more than two dozen massive oaks from residences and historical sites in and near Prosperity, South Carolina. They took turns moving the trunks with the skid steer, and finished each day covered in mud, very tired, and very happy. They even did some roof repairs. All in all a great week; everyone satisfied, knowing they made a huge difference." - Drew Shonka, CCI Volunteer Coordinator

"Penn State had a busy week in Florida. Great attitudes from morning till night drywall, mudding and flooring with great success and connections to the home owners were made. Many said they can’t wait for their next volunteer opportunity! "- Dane Gonzales, CCI Volunteer Coordinator

There is lots more to do as families work to recover from natural disaster, CCI volunteer teams have been answering the call for over 20 years. Be part of the recovery!!

In Costa Rica our volunteers supported organic farmers, collaborated with local schools, removed debris from a turtle nesting beach, and assisted in trail building within the BriBri indigenous community.

“Alternative Spring Break has, once again, inspired me to look for more ways to volunteer and serve my own community. This was my 2nd year attending ASB, and I once again found inspiration, joy, new friends and a family I will never forget.” Heartland Community College Volunteer
