United States Coast Guard - Sector New York


Are you interested in researching vital critical intelligence issues and developing skills necessary for a career in national security?


Gain hands on experience by applying to the research fellowship with the US Coast Guard!


Students participating in the fellowship will work with lead researchers and experts on real world issues related to the intelligence community. Research fellows will also broaden academic and professional ties by working with academics and IC professionals. Students from all academic disciplines are encouraged to apply.


Students will provide approximately 15 hours of research/coordination assistance per week on a project that will take place remotely, blended, or in-person for the duration of the fellowship.

National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA)

Counterintelligence Officer


Duties include:

  • Detect, analyze, and mitigate foreign intelligence and terrorist threats affecting NGA personnel, technologies, infrastructure, and/or capabilities.


  • Conduct CI inquiries; support investigations; research and analyze data; provide CI training and awareness; and conduct briefings and debriefings.


  • Monitor security incidents and coordinate damage assessments.


  • Advise NGA leadership and liaise with the Intelligence Community, federal agencies, and law enforcement agencies.


  • Specialize in cyber warfare, technical support, insider threat, collection, production, vulnerability threat and risk assessments, and network auditing.

Information Technology (Cybersecurity)


Duties include:


  • Evaluate system security plans and procedures, and assist in managing and directing the operations and functions of the office support contractors, addressing IT out-of-compliance issues, preparing, implementing, monitoring, and updating the project plan.


  • Initiate, direct and participate in the full life cycle of cyber security appraisals and network penetration testing of geographically dispersed and operationally diverse agency facilities.


  • Develop and recommend new and/or revised inspection, evaluation, and penetration testing methodologies for cyber security appraisals.


  • Provide recommendations on implementation strategies and policy recommendations based on industry best practices and governing directives


  • Collaborate with senior leadership, departmental and contractor managers and staff in scheduling, planning, coordinating, and implementing the Independent Oversight Cyber Security Appraisal Program.
