Dear CCISD Staff and Families:
I ask for your patience as we continue to adjust our school opening plans based on the latest health guidance and data. While we planned to open schools this year in a way that more closely aligned with life before COVID-19 rather than last school year, we are adjusting our practices based on evolving conditions. We are enthusiastic about the start of the new school year and are strongly committed to actions to promote public health.
As the Texas Education Agency (TEA) has noted, the Department of State Health Services issued a rule that provides that “school systems must exclude students from attending school in person who are actively sick with COVID-19 or who have received a positive test result for COVID-19.” Therefore, both for public health reasons and to minimize school exclusions, health precautions need to be a significant focus. The following actions will be implemented for at least the first three weeks of school. We will reassess our position at that time. Perhaps none of these actions are ideal, but they are needed to protect public health and minimize exclusions from school.
Clear Creek ISD is strongly recommending students and staff wear face coverings indoors.
Campus staff will separate classroom desks as much as possible.
Our first day elementary traditions such as photographs and meet the teacher activities will be held outdoors similar to how we held those events last year.
To limit traffic within the school buildings, we are requesting no visitors without an appointment for the first three weeks of school.
As previously communicated,
- Students will be socially distanced during breakfast and lunch at the elementary school level. Designated areas for social distancing will be available at intermediate schools and high schools.
-
Elementary parents are asked to fill out a form located in the Back-to-School section on Skyward Family Access to indicate their preference regarding face coverings. This will assist teachers in monitoring those who will be required to wear a face covering.
- Face coverings are strongly recommended on CCISD school buses as social distancing is not possible. Parents are also encouraged to drive their children to/from school if possible.
- Cleaning supplies, hand wipes, and hand sanitizers will be in every classroom. Hand sanitizing stations will be available in common areas.
- Refillable water bottle stations are accessible at each school.
- Face coverings will be made available to students upon request.
Under strong consideration and communication to be forthcoming,
- CCISD may reinstitute ten COVID-19 days for staff who have tested positive for COVID-19.
- CCISD is planning a temporary and limited online learning option for elementary students.
You may recall that CCISD advocated for Texas to count virtual learning for the 2021-2022 school year for attendance and funding purposes. We conducted enrollment last spring for virtual learning for the 2021-2022 school year, contingent upon state funding. We set aside these plans when the Legislature did not pass a bill to fund virtual learning beyond the 2020-2021 school year. We will continue to advocate for the state to change course and fund virtual learning.
These measures are responsive to the data we have today. As always, please be sure to visit www.ccisd.net/covid19 to review our frequently asked questions.
We look forward to seeing students return to their school next week with safety precautions in place.
Warm Regards,
Eric Williams, Ed.D.
