November 09, 2025: The Spiritual Aspect of Being a Veteran, with Rev. Doti Boon.

Spiritually, the veteran’s path mirrors that of the ancient warrior monks. Many veterans return home seeking to reconcile what they’ve seen with what they believe, learning that true strength is not in domination but in healing, forgiveness, and service to others.

To honor veterans spiritually is to recognize that they carry not just the scars of battle but the wisdom of endurance. They remind us that peace is not the absence of war—it is the presence of compassion, understanding, and inner resolve.

Holbrooke Inn:

A Real Life Ghost Encounter

with Rev. Doti Boon

I attended a wedding at the Holbrooke Inn in Grass Valley, CA a while back and this is the real story of what actually happened...as I recall.

"I moved through excited party guests to the antique registration desk. The check-in process was slow and gave me time to study the colorful spirit behind the Assistant Manager at the desk. The apparition was a short man with ginger-colored hair and mutton chops smiled at the merriment. His blue eyes twinkled with the glint of too much booze and his ethereal body swayed to music of the Dixie Chicks."

"He seemed delighted that I could see him, and gave me a wink, and a touch to his green and black checkered cloth cap. I smiled and gave him a slight nod." And so much more.

Next Week's Service November 16, 2025

November 16, 2025: AI, Benefit or Disaster? with Rev. Doti Boon. Artificial intelligence isn’t the future. It’s here now, and it’s already changing health care in profound ways.

  • Enhanced Cancer Detection: finding more tumors, prostate cancers, lung cancers, identify skin cancers.
  • Interactions Ease Loneliness and isolation for older adults.
  • Smarter Heart Health Tests: Cardiac Scans Boost Heart Diagnostics
  • Advances for diabetes, high blood pressure, inflammation. Personalize type 2 diabetes care. Spot pulmonary hypertension. Find hidden heart inflammation.
  • Better Parkinson’s Management: AI device eases symptoms. Detect Parkinson’s from earwax odors. Improve memory after brain injury. Spot stroke emergencies with voice recognition.
  • New Uses for Old Medications: Repurposing Existing Drugs With AI. Identify new antibiotics, link Alzheimer’s genes with treatments, develop a new gut drug.
  • Tech-Assisted Surgery: AI in the Operating Room, track tools during surgery, find hidden cancer during brain surgery, match heart donors to recipients.
  • And so much more.

Search for Intelligent Life—Artificial or Not

If we’re to believe the experts, humans are on the precipice of a revolution thanks to artificial intelligence. AI will disrupt every aspect of our lives, from health care to work to transportation.

It’s the last one that has really caught my attention, transportation. As someone with a poor sense of direction, I’m hoping carmakers will incorporate smarter AI into navigation systems so that one day it will be able to deliver useful directions for everyone—even a perpetually lost 87year-old like me.

Oh, I can hear it now…

ME: "Siri, Give me driving directions from my home to Kaiser Hospital in Santa Clara.

SIRI: Heavy traffic ahead for the next mile due to roadwork. Don’t let aggravate your hypertension.

Turn left to the Expressway. Proceed for 3 miles, past the Walgreens where you got your flu shot.

At the light, turn left. Continue for 2 miles past the house Fran and Butch lived in until they moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Funeral procession ahead. Maintain speed. It’s no one you know.

In 1,000 feet, make a quick right into the gas station with the clean public restrooms. And next time, skip that second cup of coffee.

Police speed trap reported ahead. Increase speed to minimum required by law.

You have arrived at your destination for your 10 a.m. appointment. The current time is 8:17 a.m. And by the way, your appointment is tomorrow.
