Earth Day Fun Facts and Trivia

Did You Know?
17 trees are saved by every ton of existing paper that is recycled. That means if we pulped every Harry Potter book we wouldn't be able to see the sky for foliage.
~ ~ ~
More than half the earth is under the sea
'How inappropriate to call this planet Earth when clearly it is Ocean.' - quotes Arthur C. Clarke in 1990.
~ ~ ~
Almost half the weight of the earth's crust is accounted for by oxygen
~ ~ ~
The Earth orbits the Sun at a speed of 66,700 mph [107,320 kph].
~ ~ ~
The Earth is about 4.5 billion years old.
~ ~ ~
The Amazon rainforest produces more than 20% the world's oxygen supply.
~ ~ ~
The oceans of the world would rise about 60 meters if Antarctica's ice sheets melted.
~ ~ ~
About 27 tons of dust rains down on the earth each day from space.
~ ~ ~
Only 3% water of the earth is fresh, the remaining 97% is salted. Of that 3%; over 2% is frozen in ice sheets and glaciers. Meaning that less than 1% of fresh water is found in lakes, rivers and underground.

 "Earth Day"
with Rev. Janet Childs and Rev. Corry Gott

earth day beans

I wish to thank the Revs. Corry Gott and Janet Childs for arranging and presenting this Sunday's Earth Day presentation.  They have once more arranged an amazing celebration to support Mother Earth. Revs. Tom and Mary Garry will be in the house to help with the meditation. The CCL choir will also be singing the praises of our Earth Mother as they present "Colors Of The Wind".  Please join us.

Earth Day

For over 40 years, Earth Day - April 22nd has inspired and mobilized individuals and organizations worldwide to demonstrate their commitment to environmental protection and sustainability.
Earth Day is an annual day on which events are held worldwide to demonstrate support for environmental protection. April 22 date was designated as International Mother Earth Day adopted by the United Nations in 2009 and is celebrated in more than 192 countries every year.
Earth Day isn't just about giving lip service to being environmentally correct, or looking outside and congratulating Mother Earth on the blooming flowers and lovely ripening fruit.  Earth day is a time for you to become an active contributor in supporting our planet!
Take some time this Sunday after church to take a nature hike.  Pick a park or nearby trail and enjoy being one with nature.  And, while you are out there remember to clean up the litter.  Litter not only detracts from the beauty but it can be dangerous to people and animals.  Becoming environmentally aware is one of the best ways to celebrate Earth Day.
You may want to attend an Earth Day Event - they are filled with fun activities for kids and adults.  One of the best one in the world is right here in San Francisco.
How about cooking a special Earth Day meal using healthy organic foods?
Maybe you could just go walk on the beach, dance in a park, bicycle through town or sit quietly near a lake and just be.  Whatever you do - honor our Mother Earth for all she does for us.

The following is one of my favorite prayers to invoke this Monday the 22nd of April.

Let us Pray
Oh Goddess of whirling galaxies, rain forests and rivers, tides and thunderstorms,

we've been too busy to notice how our choices affect our world.

At last we're paying attention:
You gave us a gift but we were careless and now it's broken.
We gather today, repentant, hopeful, and determined to restore, cleanse, and bring new life to earth, wind, and creature.
Let us share Your imagination;

let us be Your fingers
as we tend this gift, which holds and carries us all.

Sound and color used together or separately can create a healing vibration which can be used along with other techniques, such as Reiki, to enhance the energy flow. We may not be conscious of the many ways colors and sounds are used every day, such as in clothing, choices in music and even food.

Join Rev Anne and experience some sound and color exercises to enhance your personal life as well as add to your healer's tool box.
