COVID-19 booster shot for Pfizer, Moderna vaccines will be available Sept. 20: “The Biden administration on Wednesday (8/18) unveiled plans to begin offering COVID-19 booster shots on Sept. 20 for American adults who received the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines as cases of the highly contagious delta variant continue to spread across the country.” - Naples Daily News
Editor’s note: After the FDA approval process DOH-Collier will receive guidance on how and to whom to administer 3rd doses. It is anticipated that the roll out will mirror the initial vaccine roll out – ages 65+, healthcare workers, and nursing home residents first.

NCH Healthcare System restricts visitations due to COVID-19 rise: "Visitations will be virtual in most department, except for compassionate care at the COVID unit and the Critical Care Unit." - WINK News

Lee Health, NCH see yet more increases in COVID-19 patients: ICUs near full or overflowing: “Southwest Florida's primary hospital systems reported more increases in COVID-19 patients and that their intensive care units are nearly full or overflowing.” - Naples Daily News

Why immunocompromised patients should get third mRNA COVID-19 shot: “The (FDA) on Thursday (8/12) authorized third doses of Pfizer-BioNTech ;and Moderna mRNA COVID-19 vaccines for some people who are immunocompromised." - AMA
Editor’s note: DOH-Collier is providing the 3rd dose for immunocompromised individuals following the CDC guidelines. Vaccines are available by walk-in at the Naples Clinic Health Dept site or contact DOH-Collier COVID-19 Call Center at 239-252-6220 M-F 9-5 with questions. 3rd doses are also available at commercials pharmacies and providers (providers may obtain 3rd dose vaccine supplies in same fashion as obtaining regular supplies).

Dr. David Wilkinson, Advanced Urology Institute in Naples, is currently unavailable due to a medical condition and a full recovery is anticipated in the near future. Upon Dr. Wilkinson’s return, his patients will return under his care. Please see Dr. Wilkinson’s Public Statement for patient appointment scheduling information in the interim.
Healthy Collier Community Health Survey Request: Collier County residents are invited to complete the Community Health Survey which will gather thoughts about the health and quality of life in our community. Feedback will be used to develop a plan to improve Collier County's public health system and the health of residents. This survey takes about 5 minutes to complete. Take Survey
Invitation to join CCMS Committees: Membership in CCMS committees is open to all CCMS physician members. If you are interested in serving on any CCMS committees, please contact April Donahue, CCMS Executive Director / (239) 435-7727.
CCMS Physician Member Survey Results: View our updated responses on member physicians who are accepting new patients to help with your referral needs. Member physician who would like to be included, be sure to complete the CCMS Member Survey to help us better connect with CCMS members, and connect members with each other. The survey also offers to collect and share member cell phones with each other for those who provide permission solely for this purpose. To request a list of members who’ve given permission, contact CCMS.

Confidential, cost-free counseling/coaching sessions with the CCMS Physician Wellness Program (operating via telehealth or in-person during the COVID-19 outbreak) are open to all CCMS physician members. *Update: CCMS is extending the offer of sessions to non-member physicians during the pandemic. Foundation of CCMS Announces 2021 Healthcare Scholarship Winners
The board of directors of the Foundation of Collier County Medical Society (CCMS) is pleased to announce the winners of its 2021 Foundation Healthcare Scholarship awards: Natalia Correa, Emily Gansert, Charissa Obeng-Nyarko, and Yordan Urrutia. Each student will receive a $5,000 scholarship.

The final tally of 2021 scholarship awards given by the Foundation is now $32,500, which also includes the $12,500 award given to Alexzandra Mattia, recipient of the Foundation’s 2021 Dr. William Lascheid Memorial Scholarship for Medical Students, announced in July.

The Foundation of CCMS healthcare scholarships are for students who are Florida residents enrolled or accepted into a healthcare degree program, with awards based on need, academic performance, and community involvement.

“The Foundation received scholarship applications this year from many remarkable healthcare students,” said Dr. Rolando Rivera, Foundation Chair. “We are very appreciative of the generous Foundation donors and sponsors who have given us the opportunity to provide financial aid to our future medical professionals.”
