Medical board chairman warns of plastic surgery risk: “Plastic surgery is becoming a public health risk (...). Florida Board of Medicine Chairman Steven Rosenberg said state health officials need to educate the public about the risks of plastic surgery and how the dangers can increase when procedures are performed by physicians who aren’t qualified.” - FLAPOL

Unequal treatment: Children's mental health dollars vary across state, Southwest Florida: "The mental health care a child receives depends on their insurance, where they live, and if their parents can afford to pay out-of-pocket for more credentialed professionals and programs not covered by insurance.  
Roughly half of Florida children with depression, anxiety or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder do not receive treatment (...)." - Naples Daily News

Fees a sore subject as telehealth moves forward in Florida: "The Florida panel that regulates medical doctors will begin putting in place rules next week that are designed to make the state’s new telehealth law a reality. But physicians who serve on the Florida Board of Medicine will have no say over one of the most-contentious parts of the law: registration costs for out-of-state doctors (...)." - Naples Daily News

Medicare E/M proposal will slash physicians’ documentation load: “New proposals that prioritize patients over paperwork and let doctors be doctors by reducing administrative burdens (...) were released this week by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The burden-reducing rules were included in the proposed 2020 Medicare physician payment schedule." - AMA

Dr. Patrick Flaharty contributed an article
"The Eyes Have it" to the Aug/Sept issue of èBella Magazine.
Dr. Kiran Gill wrote an article entitled "Breast implant safety, aesthetics in plastic surgery" in the Guest Commentary of the Naples Florida Weekly.
Dr. F. Michael Gloth is one of the co-investigators on a recently approved $3.75 million grant from the federal Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) which was awarded to the the Department of Geriatrics at the Florida State University College of Medicine and will help shape the future of health care in Florida.
CCMS Wins Awards for Advocacy and Innovation at National Conference
The American Association of Medical Society Executives (AAMSE) presented CCMS with the “President’s Award for Innovative Engagement Within Organized Medicine” and the award for "Advocacy: Under $2 million budget” at its annual meeting on July 26th. The recognition is part of AAMSE’s ninth annual Profiles of Excellence Awards program, highlighting organizations for their efforts that advance the field of organized medicine and improve the lives of physicians and the patients they serve.

CCMS was recognized for its Patient Choice Community Education Campaign, which mobilized a grassroots campaign including physicians and patients through person to person contact, media activity, and fundraising. April Donahue, CCMS Executive Director, accepted the awards on behalf of CCMS from 2018-19 AAMSE President Steve Levine, Texas Medical Association. Read AAMSE’s press release.
