Get Out
Circumstances found us returning to air travel last week, and we can reliably report that flying can now be described as ‘normal with masks’.
All were masked up, social distancing happened when it could (neither while in line to board nor while seated on the plane), and the food and drink served was minimal (tiny bag of pretzels, small bottle of water, sanitary wipe). And this: All four flights were 100% full. Did we feel ‘safe’? As fully vaccinated, yes (but will still get tested upon return).
But beyond the particulars it was simply great to Get Away, to be somewhere completely other. Yes, we love Center City life, but damn did it ever feel good to ‘escape’ for awhile. After a year of lockdown the benefit of a simple getaway cannot be overestimated, nor can the improved perspective it brings.
If there was ever a time for the fully vaccinated to get out of Dodge, it is now. Bon Voyage.

CCRA Board of Directors Meeting Discussion
At the CCRA Board meeting Tuesday April 13, 2021, the Board passed several resolutions. These resolutions include:
- approving revised bylaws for recommendation to the general membership at the Annual Meeting in May 2021
- encouraging the Director of Commerce to have Mayor Kenney and Commissioner Outlaw engage with Center City merchants in an effort to restore vitality to our community,
- supporting the proposed two way bicycle lane on the south side of Market Street between 20th and 23rd Streets, pending further consultation with relevant City agencies
- authorizing the executive committee to finalize a letter requesting data on the ATVs to Commissioner Outlaw and Managing Director Alexander.
Executive Vice President Rick Gross also reported on the results of a visioning exercise conducted at the March board meeting, during which board members imagined ways CCRA could further fulfill our mission in transformative ways. Several projects were identified under the general categories of "Clean and Green--the Environment", "Neighborhood Diversity, Equity and Inclusion" and "Facilitating Community Giving", which will be explored over the summer. By September, we hope to have a more vigorous program related to these themes to pursue.

CCRA to Police: Let Us Help
|
During last summer’s protests, the Center City Residents' Association was integral in providing up-to-the-minute status updates from the police to our members.
In advance of possible reaction following the Derrick Chauvin trial – regardless of the verdict – CCRA President Maggie Mund has reached out to the police via a letter to Commissioner Outlaw in which she again volunteers our role as information liaison between the police and our members.

Greenfield Gives Back kicks off Friday, April 16 and ends on Wednesday, April 28. Look for families participating in a scavenger hunt throughout the neighborhood where each mission is to support a local restaurant or business. The more missions a family completes, the more prizes they are eligible for. On Friday, 4/30, they are hosting a virtual Spring Party to include a Talent Show and the prizes for the scavenger hunt.
Please note, only current Greenfield families are eligible for raffle prizes but all are invited to participate in the scavenger hunt to support local businesses.

Streets Seem Crowded? It’s Because They Are
|
It’s not your imagination that the streets of Center City seem more crowded. In the first week of April the Center City District numbered 103,300 people walking the streets. That’s about 14,000 per day, and higher than any week last year including pre-pandemic months. The happy details can be found here.
