Craven 100 Alliance Visits Havelock High School to Highlight Student Opportunities

Craven County Schools was proud to welcome members of the Craven 100 Alliance to Havelock High School for their May Board Meeting, providing an excellent opportunity to showcase the incredible work taking place across the district.

During the visit, Career and Technical Education (CTE) and JROTC students and staff had the opportunity to highlight their programs and demonstrate the meaningful experiences available to students throughout Craven County Schools. The event allowed local leaders and community partners to see firsthand how students are developing valuable academic, leadership, and career-ready skills through engaging, hands-on learning opportunities.

Dr. Cheeseman welcomed the group and shared appreciation for the continued partnership and support from community leaders who invest in the success of Craven County students and schools.

Holly Tolston, Director of Career and Technical Education, also addressed the group, sharing highlights from CTE programs across the district and spotlighting the outstanding accomplishments of both students and staff. Her presentation emphasized the innovative learning experiences, workforce development initiatives, and student success stories that continue to make Craven County Schools a leader in preparing students for future careers and opportunities.

The district is grateful to the Craven 100 Alliance for choosing Havelock High School as the site for its May meeting and for its ongoing support of public education and workforce development initiatives in our community.



Opportunities like these allow Craven County Schools to share the many reasons why CCS is THE Choice for students, families, and the community.

On Wednesday, May 13th, District Lead Nurse Forsyth had the opportunity to shine a well-deserved spotlight on our incredible school nurses and the vital role they play in supporting the health, wellness, and success of our students each day.

Superintendent Dr. Cheeseman, along with Board Chairman Kirkman and Board Member Dacey, expressed their appreciation and recognized the tremendous impact these dedicated healthcare professionals have on students, staff, and our families across Craven County Schools.

From caring for students’ medical needs to providing comfort, compassion, and support, our school nurses make a difference every single day.

Borrow. Wear. Return. Stay Safe on the Water!

Craven County - As boating and swimming season kick into high gear, just a reminder, wearing a life jacket is the most effective way to prevent drowning while boating or engaging in water activities.

Craven County Fatality Prevention Team, in partnership with Pollocksville Trail Life Troop NC-1211, has constructed and placed a Life Jacket Station at Cow Pen Landing Boat Ramp—1199 Cow Pending Landing Road, Vanceboro, NC 28586.

The Life Jacket Station gives the public who may have forgotten to bring their life jackets or do not own one an opportunity to borrow one for free, aiming to reduce or even eliminate drowning fatalities.

The Life Jacket Station operates on an honor system; life jackets are meant to be returned when the user is finished, ensuring they are available for others.

SUN Bucks is back this summer! Most eligible students will be automatically enrolled and notified by email, text or phone starting in late spring, while some families may need to apply. Be sure to check your email (including spam/junk folders) and keep your contact information up to date.

Benefits begin at the start of summer break and new SUN Bucks cards will be mailed to the address on file.

Education Leaders:

First, a moment to thank you for your hard work each and every day for the kids across this state. As a father myself, I know how important the work you do is for the families of North Carolina.

I am writing to tell you about two opportunities we would love to see you promote at your schools.

I have a passion for financial literacy and have been working to increase the availability of financial literacy learning and discussions across our great state. That kicked off with our free, monthly newsletter Finance Fridays. Thanks to the overwhelming support for this, and feedback from students across the state, we have new offerings for the 2026-2027 school year.

First, click here: “Cash Clubs” for the layout of our new financial literacy clubs. This is a school club where students can get more in-depth understanding as part of their financial literacy journey. You’ll see that we have done the heavy lifting for this. From discussion points to activities to knowledge checks- we have this planned out for you to make it as easy as possible to participate. We would love to see schools across the state add a “Cash Club” option for students. Bonus: We will be announcing a new statewide financial literacy competition in the fall that Cash Clubs can participate in.

Second, we are launching a financial literacy high school internship program. You can see details here: HIGH SCHOOL Each fall, winter and summer we will select one student to participate in the internship. This is open to students across the state - not just those in the Triangle. We can work to make remote internships possible. There is only one slot per semester, so this will be highly competitive- but it will be a great opportunity for students. I have also attached a fact sheet for this. Please share with your students.
