CCS Families In the Know

During the season of Thanksgiving, we would like to offer an opportunity for you to share a special message of thanks and gratitude with someone in our Craven County Schools family. Simply submit your information, the recipient's email address, the e-card of your choice, your message, and your THANKS-A-GRAM will be delivered electronically from November 13-November 30. Please take into consideration the length of your message as there is limited space on each card. THANK YOU for your help in spreading gratitude to our CCS staff!

New Student Information System Coming Soon

On November 2nd, the NC State Board of Education voted to award the Student Information System (SIS) contract to Infinite Campus to modernize the system in compliance with North Carolina state law. The state will begin the process of implementing the new system statewide over the next two school years. This program will replace PowerSchool and provide a more streamlined approach and supplemental offerings to support educator and student success.  Once additional information is provided by the NC Department of Public Instruction, CCS will share more details.

Happy Career Development Month to our CDC'S

The Career Development Coordinators' (CDC) role is to support Career and Technical Education (CTE) and to coordinate career development services for students participating in CTE.

The CDC works collaboratively with administrators, student services personnel, and teachers to ensure the delivery of career development services. CDCs facilitate linkages with parents, business/industry, post-secondary institutions, and community organizations to support students’ transition to post-secondary education and employment.

The CDC responsibilities incorporate the North Carolina Standard Course of Study, National Career Development Guidelines, the National Model for School Counseling Programs and Future-Ready Students For the 21st Century.

Fidelity Scholars Program Applications Open

The Fidelity Scholars Program (FSP) is back for year two! The Fidelity Scholars Program combines a generous annual needs-based scholarship with robust wrap-around services that support students’ persistence to degree or certificate attainment.

FSP provides a last dollar scholarship opportunity to high school seniors and GED recipients, ages 16-24, who will be enrolling at a 4-year college/university for the first time in Fall 2024.

If a student meets the eligibility criteria listed below, they can apply:

  • 2.5 – 3.5 unweighted GPA or GED
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Enroll at a 4-year, not-for-profit college or university in your home state
  • Come from underrepresented populations and historically underserved communities

Learn more about the program and apply here.

One of the most significant requirements in Perkins V (the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act) Federal Law is the requirement for local eligible school districts to conduct a Comprehensive Local Needs Assessment (CLNA) and update it every two years.

CTE is currently completing the Comprehensive Local Needs Assessment as required by NC Department of Public Instruction. This bi-annual requirement is needed in order to obtain the CTE state and federal funding awards that support CTE students, teachers, and programs.

If you are the parent or guardian of a student who has participated or is currently participating in the Craven County Schools' Career and Technical Education Program at one of our middle schools, high schools, or early colleges, please complete this short survey to the best of your ability to help inform the results of the CLNA.

Please provide your honest feedback so that we may use this data to improve and guide our CTE programs. Please complete this survey by Monday, November 13, 2023, if possible.
