CCS Staff In the Know
West Craven Middle School Student Donates Homemade Masks to School

On August 20, 2020, Mack Moore, 8th-grade student at West Craven Middle School visited his school to make a special presentation to Mrs. Fortescue-Principal. Mack has been busy this summer making homemade masks and wanted to present 25 of these unique face coverings to the school for staff and students. Mack's grandmother shared her sewing talent and skills with him and he quickly mastered this craft. "My grandmother taught me how to sew and I don't think she ever thought it would turn into something like this and I am actually good at it," explained Mack.
Thank you to Mack for thinking of his fellow classmates and the staff's safety and health. You are a true example of a servant leader- our mission and vision in action!
Annual Teacher Training Course in CANVAS

We all love those green checkmarks in CANVAS. If you started the CANVAS Course “Staff Annual Training Course” and could not get that little green check, the problem has been fixed.

The required annual staff trainings on Asthma, Diabetes, Bloodborne Pathogens, Seizures, Return to Learn After a Concussion, Human Trafficking and the Critical Incident Video are being delivered through a Canvas Course “Staff Annual Training Course”.

All teachers, teacher assistants and administrators should go to https://craven.instructure.com/enroll/HDFC8T to complete the training.

You may work at your own pace to complete this course but are encouraged to complete it during the first month of school. Administrators have been given access as a “teacher” so that they can monitor your progress. There is not a 10-day deadline for the completion of the annual staff training.

Cafeteria Staff, Custodians, Office Staff, and Substitute Teachers can access a different version of the training on the Craven County Schools website as they do not have access to CANVAS. If you have questions about the training, please
contact Debbie Hodge at debbie.hodges@cravenk12.org.

UPCOMING EC Trainings
Homeless Students

As you make contact with families, if you realize that a family if lacking a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence, they may qualify as “homeless” under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Act.

This includes families that may be staying in hotels, motels, campgrounds, homeless or domestic violence shelters, or sharing the housing of others due to economic hardship.

If you have a student that fits into one of these categories, please send their name to your school counselor so that we can make sure they are counted and that available services are provided.
AIG Services
AIG teachers will begin collaborating with classroom teachers to pre-assess ELA and math skills prior to assisting with instruction. They will provide teachers with extension activities to replace direct instruction/practice activities on their Playlists when appropriate. If a student has demonstrated mastery, the AIG teacher can assist with instruction in those areas. Please contact the AIG teacher assigned to your school if you have any questions.
STAFF CONTACT INFORMATION
Please remember to share with your staff the need to enter updated contact information into the Contact Information Data Base. If you have new staff members they will need their UID number and password to access the data base.
By entering their contact information, this will ensure they receive your staff notifications and district notifications distributed through BlackBoard via phone and text. The link to access the data base is located at:https://techrequest.cravenk12.org/workOrders/login/?next=/
