November 3 – Remote Learning Day/Required Workday Reminder

November 3rd is our second scheduled Remote Learning Day for students this year. It is also a Required Workday for staff. Please ensure that students are prepared in advance with the needed assignments for this day as well as November 4th, which is the regular Wednesday independent work day for students. Since November 3rd is a Required Workday for staff, school leaders are allowed to require teachers to provide office hours for students and parents to check-in or seek assistance. Please make families aware of your school’s plans well in advance.
Bus Class

We have scheduled our next bus class for November 16-18 from 9:00am till 2:30pm. If you have hired any new Teacher Assistants or any personnel that need to obtain their CDL's, please let them know about the November bus class.
The candidates need to contact Teresa Highsmith (252-514-6377) to sign up for the class. They will need to provide their name, phone number, and driver's license number. Anyone who hasn't held a valid NC driver's license for 5 consecutive years will need to obtain their driving record from the previous state(s).
The deadline to sign up for the bus class is November 12, 2020 by 3:30pm.
Attached is a flyer which advertises the bus class. Please assist our department in recruiting drivers by adding this to your Facebook page, posting in your office, and sharing in your community groups and churches. This is greatly appreciated.

HotSpot Updates:
The original Kajeet HotSpots (in the blue carrying case) will become inactive in the next several days. Tech Services will be reaching out to the hotspot contact at your school to make arrangements on how to exchange the device with a new Verizon hotspot (provided by NC Student Connect) with an unlimited data plan.

Please keep accurate records of hotspot assignments as schools will be responsible for distribution and collection. The NC Student Connect program is expecting these devices to be returned.

NC Student Connect is a partnership across state government including the Department of Information Technology (DIT), the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (DNCR), Governor Cooper’s Hometown Strong initiative and the NC Business Committee for Education (NCBCE), an educational nonprofit in the Governor’s Office.
Cards for Vets, Military Appreciation Project

Please encourage students to make cards for our military to show their appreciation. Cards should be collected in the front office of your school to be picked up by Valerie Nasser after November 16, 2020.

If you have a new phone number please make sure to let your data manager aware since your contact information is being pulled from PowerSchool for the call notification system. This will ensure you receive call/texts when they are sent out by your school and the district. Thank you!
Please share this opportunity available through our local Elks Lodge.

Contests are available for students in Grades 5-12.
