The community will have several opportunities to provide input during the search for the next superintendent of Community Consolidated School District 89.

Online survey
Residents, staff members, and students can take part in an online survey that asks participants to rate how the district is currently performing in several areas and rank the qualities that are most important in the next superintendent. The survey is available here: https://hyasurvey.com/ccsd89supt

Individual responses to the survey are confidential. Anyone in the community can take the survey. Employees of the district who are also residents may fill out the survey as an employee and again as a resident.

The survey will close on Monday, January 30.

Community forums
The firm that is assisting the Board of Education with the superintendent search will hold forums with students, staff, community groups, and residents. At the forums, participants will be able to share information about what is going well in the district and what qualities they would value in the next superintendent.

Three of the forums will be open to anyone in the community:
  • In-person forum at noon on Wednesday, February 1, in the district office, 22W600 Butterfield Road, Glen Ellyn
  • In-person forum at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, February 1, in the cafeteria at Glen Crest Middle School, 725 Sheehan Avenue, Glen Ellyn
  • Online forum at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 2. A link for the forum will be posted at www.ccsd89.org/superintendentsearch

Information gathered at all the forums and through the online survey will be used to create a “leadership profile report” that summarizes the superintendent characteristics and qualities most valued by students, staff members, and residents.

An initial summary of those findings is expected to be presented to the Board of Education during an open meeting at 9 a.m. Saturday, February 4, at the district office. A final report is expected to be made available to the Board by February 11. The report will also be posted on the district’s website.

The Board members will use the student, staff, and community feedback when interviewing an initial round of candidates in late February and early March. The board is then expected to bring finalists back for a second round of interviews in mid-March.

Throughout the search process, the latest information will be available at www.ccsd89.org/superintendentsearch

Hazard Young Attea Associates (HYA) is assisting the Board of Education with the search to replace Dr. Emily Tammaru, who will serve as CCSD 89 superintendent until June 30.
Penny Wars fundraiser will begin Monday, January 23
All CCSD 89 students will be able to compete against classmates in the upcoming ‘Penny Wars’ fundraiser, which will run from Monday, January 23, to Friday, January 27.

The district’s two Student Board Members, Kate Costello and Fatimah Shahid, have organized the fundraising competition. From January 23 to January 27, there will be jars in each school to collect donations. Any silver coins or dollars that students put in their team’s jar will add points.
