Families of second-, third-, fourth-, and fifth-grade students can now log in to their PowerSchool accounts to learn whether their student is in a morning or afternoon session. Busing assignments will be available in PowerSchool next week.
In order to bring students back as soon as possible, schools used previous survey responses to schedule morning and afternoon placements for students. Morning and afternoon sessions were built by matching sibling schedules, incorporating accommodations for special services (language, challenge, therapies, etc.), balancing remote and in-person learners, and many other factors.
After viewing your student's information, if you have questions or concerns about remote or in-person placement, please reach out to your school's principal.
Return to classrooms
Students in second through fifth grades will be able to return to classrooms for a hybrid schedule of half-day in-person learning on Tuesday, October 13, if health conditions allow. Students can also continue to learn remotely with the same teacher.
The kindergarten-through-fifth-grade hybrid schedule will have a morning session (8:50 to 11:15 a.m.) and afternoon session (1:10 to 3:35 p.m.). Students will participate in asynchronous specials and independent learning activities during the part of the day when they are not attending or logging on 'live'. There will be no lunch or recess at school. All health and safety protocols will be followed in school buildings.

Sixth-grade return date is October 19; Seventh, eighth: October 22
|
As of October 2, DuPage County is in moderate community spread which allows for hybrid in-person/remote learning. If health conditions allow, middle school students be able to return to the building the week of October 19.
· October 19: Sixth-grade students
· October 22: Seventh- and eighth-grade students
Hybrid in-person learning: Middle-school students will participate in a full, nine-period day. All three grade levels will be split into two groups, A and B. Students in group A would attend school in-person on Mondays and Thursdays, and participate in the same schedule through live video on Tuesday and Fridays. Students in group B would attend school in-person on Tuesdays and Fridays, and participate through live video on Mondays and Thursdays. On Wednesdays, students will participate in a variety of asynchronous learning activities, including independent practice, small-group instruction, and conferencing with teachers.

Students will continue to learn with the teachers they began the year with. Students who are in school will change classes during shortened, staggered passing periods. Classrooms would be grouped by grade level to reduce mixing.
Students will have access to all of their teachers throughout the day, including electives and PE. While in-person, students will follow all health requirements, including wearing a mask, socially distancing, and frequent sanitizing. Desks will be cleaned between classes. Students will not use lockers or locker rooms. Lunch will be eaten in classrooms.
Remote learning 2.0: Remote learners will log on to school at the same time in-person learners start class on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Remote learners will be watching live video of their classroom and their teacher’s lessons. Remote learning students would be able to ask questions, participate in discussions, and complete group work.
The district will send an email to all families when A/B assignments are available in PowerSchool. If you have concerns about your student's in-person or remote placement, please contact Principal Kim Price at kprice@ccsd89.org.
The hybrid learning model allows for the greatest level of consistency for students, staff, and families throughout the school year. Whether a student is learning in a classroom or at home, the structure of the school day is the same.

Health requirements, reminders
|
As students return to classrooms for in-person learning, it is important to remember the health guidelines that will reduce the risk for students, staff, and community. This video shares more information about when to keep your child and their siblings home, and when they can return to school after they are sent home with COVID-19 symptoms: https://youtu.be/AW2qxxnqVoE
As a reminder: Students will be required to wear a face mask at all times, including on the bus. Students should also bring a second face mask with them, in case the first mask gets dirty or lost.
Students will have their temperature checked and will need to present a self-certification ticket at the front door each day. Students who do not have a completed ticket will be sent to a separate area until a family member can be contacted by school staff.
If there is a suspected COVID-19 case in a CCSD 89 school, the district's nursing staff will work with the DuPage County Health Department to conduct contact tracing and advise families. All families will receive a notice if a student or staff member who is positive for COVID-19 was at school. Students who need to quarantine or be tested will receive a letter with instructions specific to their circumstances.
