Dismantling Racism and Building Equity
SCORE Program Students Develop and Teach Curriculum to Syracuse City School Teachers

The racial awakening that began at the end of May presented questions in many areas, especially in the education sector. How do we support students through this? How do we empower and inspire young people right now? Those are two of the questions that Tashia Thomas-Neal, Director of Equity and Inclusion on behalf of Onondaga County Department of Children and Family Services, found herself asking in early June during a call with the Syracuse City School District (SCSD). This conversation led to the development of the Student Coalition on Race and Equity (SCORE). SCORE is an initiative that accesses the talent and skills of Syracuse City School District students to eliminate racism in their community. Be sure to watch their moving video about the impact of SCORE.
Dismantling Racism at the Organizational Level: It Takes All of Us

Urban League of Rochester hosted their inaugural Interrupt Racism Summit in October, providing a terrific opportunity for the community to come together to share the work that has been done around dismantling racism in workplaces and in the community. As an organization, CCSI has worked for nearly 30 years to eliminate systemic and institutional inequities across our community, so we were honored to be invited to present at the summit. Check out the key takeaways from our panel on how CCSI builds a more equitable workplace from the perspective of five different organizational standpoints.

School Climate and Culture: Recognizing Building, and Honoring - Me, You, and Us

This session will explore the impact of who we are on what we do. Culture is enmeshed in everything and plays a critical role in the spaces we occupy. Imagine being invisible and unheard, how would you express your needs, values, and aspirations? How motivated would you be to pursue your dreams when feeling unseen and disregarded? Educators inspire self-determination by responding to the significance of culture on a student’s interpersonal interactions and in their educational experience. By deepening personal insight and identification of meaningful strategies, educators can increase culturally responsive, equity-driven education. In this webinar, emphasis will be placed on understanding worldview, mental models, implicit bias, culturally responsive educational practices, and strategies to facilitate liberated learning.

Should Police Respond to Mental Health Emergencies?

Positive outcomes occur most times that police interact with individuals with mental illness or related disorders, but there are times, however, when tragedy occurs. As a result, many communities re-evaluate the role of police as first responders to individuals in emotional distress. CCSI's Don Kamin, Ph.D., Director, Institute for Police, Mental Health, and Community Collaboration presented a webinar titled "Should Police Respond to Mental Health Emergencies?" This webinar explains the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) program model, which has been adopted by many communities in the aftermath of adverse incidents between law enforcement and individuals in crisis. Alternative models of responding to mental health emergencies in the community are also addressed.

You can view the PowerPoint here, the Q&A here, or click the button below if you'd like to watch the full webinar.
