Beloved Community,

This Sunday we will be joining faith communities across San Mateo County to lift up Housing Justice in worship! You may know that May is Affordable Housing Month,  and this weekend specifically is “Faith and Housing Weekend.” Maybe you spend too much of your paycheck on rent, or see members of our community struggling to get by. This Sunday we will look to the Gospel of  John, where Jesus said, “In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places.” We’ll explore how that divine house is here and now. I’m also excited to welcome Karyl Elridge to worship, who will give an update on the Our Home San Mateo campaign, and for us to hear the new piece our Chancel Choir will introduce, “All are Welcome (All Belong).”

I know that these times can be especially disheartening as we witness what is happening to our neighbors close to home and around the globe. It’s easy to feel discouraged and overwhelmed, and so I wanted to leave you with this prayer (written by Sarah Bessey)  from my morning reflection that reminded me that the work we do and the love we put out in the world are never wasted.

“Tyranny and hate and despair never win, not for long and not forever and certainly not now, so I pray that you would be blessed with a stubborn hope that keeps believing and keeps enduring.”

May it be so.

In hope,

Jessica
