Greetings, Church!
Several of you expressed appreciation for Pierre Teilhard de Chardin's, "Patient Trust," reflection I read on Sunday and asked that I send you a copy of this piece- and so that is what I share with you today. Pierre Teilhard de Chardin was a French philosopher, paleontologist, and Jesuit priest. His words remind us of the importance of patience as a spiritual practice. I hope this message continues to resonate with you as you read it again.
Patient Trust

Above all, trust in the slow work of God.
We are quite naturally impatient in everything to reach the end without delay.
We should like to skip the intermediate stages.
We are impatient of being on the way to something unknown, something new.
And yet, it is the law of all progress.
that it is made by passing through some stages of instability-
and that it may take a very long time.
And so I think it is with you;
your ideas mature gradually- let them grow,
let them shape themselves, without undue haste.
Don't try to force them on,
as though you could be today what time
(that is to say, grace and circumstances acting on your own good will)
will make of you tomorrow.
Only God could say what this new spirit
gradually forming within you will be.
Give Our Lord the benefit of believing that his hand is leading you,
and accept the anxiety of feeling yourself
in suspense and incomplete.
May Teilhard de Chardin's wisdom inspire us to trust in the slow work of God, embracing the present moment while looking forward with hope. Let these words be a source of centering and encouragement in the days ahead.

Guest Speaker: Doug Bell
Following a brief business meeting at noon in the Buckham Room, we will enjoy a program by Doug Bell, an artist/historian who lectures on Byzantine Christianity and its influence on Russian icon paintings, including his own. He will present slides of authentic icons, their place in time, and symbolism. And he will bring his own beautiful paintings and explain his inspiration in them.
Remember to BYOL - bring your own lunch. Beverages and dessert are provided.

This Sunday we'll kick-off our annual Stewardship Pledge Campaign! Rev. Jessica will be preaching "Imagine Together: A Sense of Wonder" on Matthew 6:26-30 and we are excited to welcome several musicians to worship: Aidan Yau, Don Harper, Cora and Roma Olvera, and our beloved Joyful Noise Choir and Chancel Choir.

RECOLOGY HOME RECYCLING WORKSHOP

The proper recycling of household items can be a confusing and frustrating experience. Does black plastic go in the outside blue recycling bin or in the black trash bin? Does a jar containing old use-by-date food go in the trash bin or the green composting bin? And what about paint or chemical fluids? Where do they go?
To help answer these and other questions you might have on municipal trash collection and recycling in San Mateo, Susan Lake and the Environmental Justice Ministry have arranged for a representative from Recology to come give a special workshop on home recycling and recycling at CCSM.

All Saints Day & Día de los Muertos | |

This sacred time of remembering will be celebrated in two services:
Our Latino Ministry will host a special Día de los Muertos worship service on Wednesday, October 30, where we will come together to create our communal remembrance altar, a symbol of our shared respect and love for our departed loved ones. Please bring photographs, favorite foods, objects that remind you of loved ones, candles, prayers, and names written on cards.
All Saints Day will be observed in worship on Sunday, November 3. We invite you to send in names of your loved ones to be remembered at our All Saints service. Please send those names to Jennifer by Wednesday, October 30.

CCSM's Music Ministry Committee welcomes you to this fun, family-friendly event! Young organ students and CCSM's own Phantom of the Cassavant, Angela Kraft Cross, will perform a cavalcade of musical treats.
This is concert is one of our annual fundraisers for our music ministry. If you are able, and would like to make a gift, we suggest a contribution of $20 for adults and $10 for children, students, and seniors. Little ones under 10 attend for free!
