Survey of Not-for-Profit Executives Reveals Declining Confidence in Governance Practices

While not-for-profit organizations are experiencing a period of record growth in charitable giving, at the same time, not-for-profit executives are showing less confidence in their organizations' governance practices. This is the key finding from the third annual CohnReznick not-for-profit governance survey, Promoting Confidence: Assessing the Processes and Priorities. The survey, which analyzed responses from leaders and board members at 616 organizations across the country between March and May of 2016, reveals that the confidence level of not-for-profit executives in their organization's governance practices was 59% ("very confident"), down from the 76% confidence level first reported in 2014.
Other significant findings from the survey include:
- While 1 in 10 organizations reported fraud over the past year, one-third of audit committees do not monitor whistleblower complaints.
- Under one-third (29%) of the organizations surveyed have conducted a cybersecurity vulnerability assessment to assess their technology exposure.
- Two-thirds (66%) do not plan to increase their spending on data security despite their concerns

The CCSNJ was proud to host Camden City Mayor Dana Redd and Atlantic City Mayor Don Guardian at its Oct. 7 Good Morning South Jersey event. The Mayors discussed economic development initiatives and provided updates on their respective cities.

On Oct. 14, CCSNJ members enjoyed a discussion about Southern New Jersey's future workforce and what regional institutions are doing to shape it. Representatives from Rutgers Law School-Camden, Wilmington University, Sheet Metal Workers Local Union No. 19 and Camden City School District spoke on their respective institution's work to mold students into the employees of tomorrow.
