Solid turnout for the event. Eleven people participated in the Casting/Golf Tournament. First place prize (Orvis Clearwater fly rod) was won by Buzz Soard. Last place (must have been the wind) was achieved by Dan Nagashima. A consolation prize of a 1.5-hour casting lesson from Clear Creek Fly Casting was awarded to Dan. Special thanks to Barry on getting all the permits in-place for the event and working through all of the Food Truck issues.

CCTU SEPTEMBER CHAPTER MEETING
TUESDAY, SEPT 20, 7PM
CRESTHILL MIDDLE SCHOOL & ZOOM SIMULCAST
KIRK DEETER, TROUT MAGAZINE EDITOR, THE LITTLE BLACK BOOK OF FLY FISHING
|
|
Kirk is the editor of Trout Magazine and an amazing contributor to the sport overall. His first book in this series, The Little Red Book of Fishing, was an instant classic. It has more tips, tricks, and fishing common sense packed into a small package than any other fishing book ever written. Written by Kirk and the late, great Charlie Meyers, this book is one that you will tear the pages out and stick them in your vest. He will be speaking about his sequel book…The Little Black Book of Fly Fishing…written with Chris Hunt…and designed to take you to the next level. Includes Advanced casting, presentation, reading the water, fly selection and more. Kirk is a fascinating speaker and he will deliver a great meeting. He always touches on numerous subjects, often well off the beaten path of his agenda, but always interesting areas of fly fishing, conservation, and more.
The book got delayed by covid, but is now available numerous places, including Amazon
The meeting will be held on Zoom, starting at 7pm on Tuesday, September 20. The Zoom meeting portal will open at 6:45pm, feel free to pop in early and talk with various CCTU members.

CCTU HIGH ALPINE LAKE ON-THE-WATER SEMINAR & LAKE CLEAN-UP EVENT A SUCCESS!
|
|
We had a great Alpine Lake event at Urad Lake on Sunday, August 14. We had 28 CCTU members attend the event. They enjoyed Ron Belak’s presentation on alpine lake fishing techniques and tips, fished for about 3 hours and then did about 2 hours of clean-up around the lake. Thanks to Ron Belak for all his insights, John Egan for organizing, and for all the CCTU members who showed up. Most everyone caught fish, and a lot of them brought a Tiger Trout to their net. They also braved a couple of storms in the afternoon as well as a tough drive back down to town. Look forward to doing it again next year and doing more combo fishing/clean-up events in 2023.

COME FISH WITH US EVENTS - SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 18
|
|
CCTU’s monthly Come Fish With Us program continues on September 18, 2022. It is always great if you can RSVP to David Coward at dpcoward@hotmail.com, but you can also just show up that day.
The Come Fish With Us program is designed for chapter members and non-members to explore local fisheries with experienced chapter members also there to answer questions, offer tips, and provide help on casting, fly selection, hooking, playing and landing fish. Lake Lehow is a private lake (Denver Water) that is heavily stocked with bass, panfish, and trout.
Lake Lehow can be entered from the east side of the Waterton Canyon Parking Lot. Take the Wadsworth exit south to Waterton Road, left into the parking lot. Veer to the right as you enter (toward van/trailer parking) and drive east down the dirt road to the green gate in back. A CCTU representative will be at the gate at the designated start time for an additional 5-10 minutes. The gate chain will then be “soft locked” for any late arrivals. If you arrive after the start time, please redo the chain “soft lock” before proceeding to the lake.

CCTU TRIPS - OPPORTUNITY TO EXPLORE - UPDATE
|
|
|
|
A letter to CCTU Membership from Harlan Hussman, CCTU Board of Directors:
To each of you who attended these trips, meeting and getting to know you was by far the most rewarding part the fishing adventures to “the Ark.” My heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you!
But be assured I am planning on a similar program for the 2023 fishing year. What it will be is at this point a completely blank slate. Here are some ideas in no particular order:
- Do what we did this year and continue to explore the Arkansas River.
- Do what we did this year, but explore a different river system.
- Change it up a bit and explore a different river with each trip.
- Something else?
With that I’d love to hear constructive feedback on the trips from this year, and your ideas on what we should do next year:
- What did you like about this year’s trips?
- What should we change as compared to trips we did this year?
- What would you like to see in this program for next year?
If you have any questions, any comments, any feedback, any ideas for next year, or if you just want to touch base, please do reach out to me. I’d love to hear from you!
We hope to see you at a chapter meeting over the winter, and looking forward to reconnecting with you on fishing trips when we ramp this program up again in 2023!
Harlan can be reached at: harlan.husmann@outlook.com or (701) 893-6068.
