Updated CDC Guidance for Management of Healthcare Personnel with SARS-CoV-2 Infection or Exposure
December 29, 2021
In the context of rapidly increasing COVID-19 case counts caused by the omicron variant, on December 23, 2021, the CDC updated its recommendations for management of healthcare staff exposed to or infected with SARS-CoV-2.

OCHCA recommends that county healthcare facilities and nursing homes become familiar with and prepared to implement CDC’s guidance for contingency and crisis conditions. In particular, this guidance provides options to shorten duration of work restrictions for healthcare personnel with SARS-CoV-2 infection and those who had a higher-risk exposure to SARS-CoV-2.

This guidance is intended for potential use when conventional strategies cannot be sustained during a surge in COVID-19 cases. In these situations, facilities may consider implementing contingency strategies, then crisis strategies, in an incremental manner, as described below.

The guidance is based on the limited information currently available about the Omicron variant and will be updated as needed as new information becomes available.
