Qualifying Participants and Application Process
Flight Training and Aviation Studies
Two or more Scholarships in the amount of $500.00 will be awarded by the Coeur d’ Alene Airport Association (CdAAA). These Scholarships shall be awarded to those with an interest in pursuing a career in Aviation. Successful applicants will be informed by email/letter.
Scholarships may be used for flight training, completing academic studies to meet FAA requirements for airframe & powerplant mechanic, inspection authorization, avionics technician, academic studies for aircraft dispatcher, or for academic study leading to a degree in an aviation related field of engineering or management.
All scholarship applicants must be currently enrolled or accepted into an aviation related program that leads to a two year of four-year degree, or an advanced degree at any accredited educational institution, or be a flight student in a flight school teaching under FAR Part 141, or be studying with a flight instructor who teaches under FAR Part 61. High School students see directions below.
To be eligible an applicant in a flight training program must meet the following criteria:
- Be actively engaged in flight training with an appropriate flight instructor when training is under FAR Part 141 in the Coeur d’ Alene Airport. He/She must demonstrate satisfactory progress per his/her flight instructor.
To be eligible for an Academic or A & P Scholarship applicant must be:
- Enrolled in, or have applied to, a two/four-year college/authorized educational program, leading to anaviation related career.
- Enrolled or applied to a technical institution in the area, leading to an aviation related skill/career.
- In either of the above the applicant must continue to show satisfactory progress.
High School Seniors will be willing to enroll in a formal ground school leading to a private pilot license:
*Ground Schools are offered in Coeur d’ Alene, Sandpoint, and Spokane and will have to be covered, in part, at the personal expense of the successful scholarship award winner.
Instructions and additional criteria:
1. All Applicants must be residents of the State of Idaho
2. Incomplete applications will not be considered
3. Materials submitted to the Coeur d’ Alene Airport Association with the application will not be returned.
4. The applicant must complete Section A, B, and C. If we can’t read your application, it will not be accepted. Typed applications are preferred. A representative of the applicant’s school or CFI if studying under FAR Part 61, must complete the box at the beginning of Section A, certifying that the applicant is enrolled and in good standing.
5. If applying for an advanced flight training scholarship, attach a photocopy of your current pilot certificate, current medical and logbook page(s) showing your total hours with the last date flown, endorsement/currency/and a copy of your written test results, if any, for the certification desired.
6. Include two letters of reference. One letter must be from a personal reference and the other from someone working in the aviation industry that knows you. These letters of reference must be submitted by email to admin@cdaairportassociation.org.
7. Applicant must submit a type-written statement that outlines personal goals, how training will be used, and a description of financial need. Also, describe what has drawn you to aviation. Your statement must be no longer that one page. This statement must be submitted by email to admin@cdaairportassociation.org.
8. Applications and supporting materials must be submitted in total to the CdAAA address provided.
9. Each applicant will be invited to an in-person presentation to members of the CdAAA Board.
10. The scholarship will be awarded within 30 days. Successful applicants will be notified by email/letter
11. Acceptance of the scholarship constitutes permission for the CdAAA to use their name, photograph, and other information from the application or interview.
12. Funds will be paid directly to the educational institution, flight school, FBO, or instructor to be applied toward flight training or tuition at a college, university, ground school or trade school. Please have a representative from your school or your Flight Instructor sign below, certifying that funds will only be applied to flight training or academic tuition costs.
