CDdAAA Meeting Minutes
September 9, 2025
Call to Order at 5:00 pm by Harry Craviotto at the Stancraft Jet Center, KCOE.
Members/Guests present: see list on file with Secretary
Minutes from previous meeting: motion to approve: Mike K; 2nd from Jim W.
Treasurer’s Report as of July 31: Checking - $1,142.39, Savings - $5,888.26
President’s Report/Old Business:
• CdAAA is still planning to host a Brunch at the fly-in next August 2026 (week of 3-6) with the Cessna
185 Association.
• Mike K informed us that the bench honoring Dr Manteufell is finished and ready for the Viewing
Center.
Airport Director’s Report:
*Viewing Center: Airport is breaking ground on the Viewing platform. More to report next meeting.
* Getting approval for an FAA tower involves complex factors surrounding our average daily flights,
traffic density and safety; It is a difficult and time-consuming process. We requested one many years ago
without success, and so we’ve built our own. It is a non-Federal facility, unique to this area. Tower operation
is currently “temporary”, but KCOE is pressing for a permanent tower designation. Looking forward to all new
radios for our current tower, courtesy of FAA.
* Fire Traffic: Definitely an up-tic; nearly 2million gallons of retardant, $50,000 of fuel/day, and an
average of 400 to 800 ops/day.
* We have 4 cameras operating at the airport: one down every runway, available via Public Portal,
live.
* Idaho State DoT, Boise, will hold a hearing on Air Space re: new rules for all pilots. Mosaic?
CdA Airport Advisory Board Report: Friendly Flying Reminder:
For our KCOE/visiting pilots regarding complaints about the early morning full power takeoffs-to-
altitude noise abatement procedure. Please remember the pattern procedures flying South: follow west side
of Lake CdA, and flying North: follow east side of the lake.
Guest Speaker:
We hosted Anne Anderson this meeting as she shared her Air Race Classic participation. She started
flying in 1980, took some time off and returned to fly in 2013. There were several briefings and timed flights
to establish their handicap. They used “Bad Elf” to record their daily routes/times during the race. We
certainly enjoyed hearing about her adventures during the recent Air Race Classic. She and her flying partner,
Melinda Denton, have had some fascinating flights around South Africa, Australia, and up to Alaska. Maybe we
can have them come share the videos of these adventures(?)
New Business:
• No Limits to host a free BBQ on Sept 13.
• Girls in Aviation Day will be hosted by CdA Aviation and WAI on Sept 20, 0100 -1230. See Dr Rachael
about this event.
• Dr Rachael reports that CdA Aviation has a new CFI and Charter Pilot, Rachel Skirven
• In two weeks, Dr Rachael Ferraro will be certified in the HIMS Training.
• Dr Rachael will be working on a Chili Cook-off and Pumpkin Painting contest for October. More details
next meeting! Look for flyers.
Good of Order: A big Thank you to Anne Anderson for her great talk and to Mike Kincaid for sharing Aviation
Crash pics while we tried to guess the causes and for his FaceBook site, KCOE Flyers, with all kinds of Aviation
related information. Thanks, also, to Steve A. for his “lesson learned” share.
Thank you to Stancraft for hosting CdAAA this month.
Next Meeting: October 14, 2025, 5PM at Stancraft Jet Center, 3300 W Aviation Way, Hayden
Adjournment: 6:06 pm.
Respectfully Submitted,
Elsbeth Roach
