Get Ready for the 2020-2021 Registration Renewal

The online portal for registration renewal will be open from March 1, 2020, 9:00 am to March 31, 11:59 pm. Once the portal is open, you may access registration renewal by signing into your CDBC online account. This year, the fee for registration renewal for “full” and “temporary” registration classes is
$600.00 for the registration period of April 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021. The fee for registration renewal for “non-practicing” registration class is $260.00.

Any registrant who does not renew registration on or before the 11:59:59 pm, March 31, 2020 deadline ceases to be registered and may not practice dietetics as of April 1, 2020. As per CDBC bylaws, section 49 (1) , renewing registration after the deadline incurs a “late” registration fee of $300.00. If you do not intend to renew your registration, please login to your account and choose “Not Renewing” and email [email protected] to resign in good standing.
Website Interruption
Due to website updates and host changes, the CDBC website has been experiencing interruptions. Registrants having difficulty accessing the website for renewal may access it through the below link:

Restricted Activity Changes

  1. There are no longer fees for renewing restricted activities.
  2. Proof of competency for restricted activities is no longer required.
  3. During registration renewal you will need to select the restricted activities options available to you to confirm continuation of your restricted activities registration.
  4. You will be required to report on your restricted activities annually through your Continuing Competency Program (CCP) submissions.
  5. When applying for new or renewing registration of restricted activities, you will be required to sign a legal declaration confirming that you are competent to practice your restricted activities.
  6. If you want to add a new restricted activity, you can do so before or after your registration renewal through online services. There is a $27 administration fee when adding new restricted activities that you do not currently have. 
  7. If you wish to discontinue a restricted activity registration you may unselect the restricted activity during renewal.

Review of your Statutory and Liability Declarations

Every year during registration renewal, registrants must review and solemnly declare that they will:
  • practice according to BC legislation, which includes the CDBC Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice,
  • meet the CDBC’s Continuing Competence Program requirements,
  • agree to a Criminal Record Re-check,
  • complete the Jurisprudence Examination on a 5-year cycle, 
  • meet liability insurance requirements (an amount of not less than two million dollars ($2,000,000) per occurrence) as a condition of registration with the CDBC.
  • Agree to practice restricted activities (if applicable) safely and report on learning activities annually through the Continuing Competence Program

Remember, these declarations are legally binding statements and registrants are liable for any false declarations. When renewing your online registration, please take time to read all the documents listed in the declarations carefully, as they relate to your ethical responsibilities when practicing dietetics.

2020 CCP and JED Reminder
This is a reminder to Full Registrants in the 2020 CCP and JED Groups who have not yet completed their submissions. Please sign into your online CDBC account and access the CCP and/or JED through Online Services to complete these registration requirements in time for the March 31, 2020 renewal deadline. Registrant who have not completed these requirements will not be able to access registration renewal.

May 2020 Canadian Dietetic Registration Examination Scheduling Open
_
The portal to schedule appointments for the May 11-16, 2020 Canadian Dietetic Registration Examination (CDRE) is now open. CDBC bylaws section 43 (3) requires any temporary registrant of the CDBC to write the CDRE at the first scheduled sitting after temporary registration is granted.
Additionally, any current or former registrant who fails the initial attempt at the CDRE must sit the next scheduled CDRE (per CDBC bylaws section 47 (2).

The deadline to register for the CDRE is April 24, 2020. If you have not already applied to take the May 2020 CDRE, please contact the CDBC. Accommodations requests are due by March 13, 2020.

The CDRE is the national competence examination for Dietitians in Canada. It is the final confirmation of competence to practice dietetics, at entry-level. The CDRE is developed and administered by the Alliance of Canadian Dietetic Regulatory Bodies. The exam is required by every Canadian province, except Quebec, for full registration privileges. The College of Dietitians of BC is responsible for the administration of the CDRE in BC.

CDBC Registration Tax Receipts

If you wish to claim your 2019-2020 CDBC registration fees for the 2019 income tax year, you can access and print your CDBC tax receipts from the CDBC website.

Sign-in to your CDBC online profile. Scroll down to Online Services and select Receipts, then select Tax Receipt. Tax receipts will be organized by year, from a drop-down list. Please note, tax receipts dated 2016 or earlier are no longer available.

Any new tax receipts will be available from your CDBC online account 48 hours after your payment is successfully completed. This includes receipts for purchasing Restricted Activities throughout the year.

2019 CDBC tax receipts contain CDBC registration fees for Professional Practice only. Consent to Criminal Records Check fees charged by the Ministry of Public Service are not included.

Stay Informed About the Coronavirus
_
The coronavirus has captured a lot of attention in the news and on social media. Misinformation about the virus is present and registrants should be careful about spreading false information to the public. The BC Centre for Disease Control is the trusted source of information for health professionals and the public. It is updating its website regularly with information about how it is spread, how to protect yourself, number of confirmed cases, testing and case management and other public health measures.

Registrants are encouraged to review the site frequently to get the latest and most accurate information about the coronavirus if it is relevant in their practice.
_
The College would also like to remind registrants of their obligations regarding professional interactions and inclusion while providing dietetic services. Discrimination of patients whether it is based on their medical condition, their national or ethnic origin will not be tolerated.

You Asked About… Renewal?

Q: What if I register with a restricted activity but don’t practice it?
Your annual CCP will reflect your Restricted Activity registration. You must include a learning report based on the Restricted Activity and provide activities and outcomes in order to satisfy your CCP. If you are not practicing with Restricted Activities, but are registered with them, you must maintain your competence by including them in your annual CCP. The next annual CCP for ALL registrants will be due March 31, 2021.

Q: What if I was on maternity leave last year and did not renew my restricted activities but I want them for the 2020-2021 renewal year?
Because you are not currently registered with Restricted Activities, they will not appear readily on your renewal. However, you are able to register for Restricted Activities anytime. Restricted Activities expire yearly on March 31st. 
During renewal, registrants will only be able to select restricted activities that they are currently registered with. The accessibility of those check boxes will be determined by whether the registrant has been registered previously with those Restricted Activities. For example, a registrant renewing with Restricted Activities A, B, C, will be able to select each check box upon renewal. A registrant who has never been registered with Restricted Activities (or who might have A, but need B/C at renewal), will have to add the new restricted activities in online services before renewal (and pay a one-time administration fee of $27) before gaining access to the check box(es) for the newly registered Restricted Activities. The process of providing a verification of competence during registration/renewal will no longer be required and has moved into the annual CCP requirement as part of goal development and achievement.

Q: What if I change my mind and want to register with restricted activities after registration renewal?
You are able to register with Restricted Activities anytime. Please see the above response.
Q: Where do I upload my proof of competence and/or verification form?
You don’t! It is no longer a requirement to upload a proof of competence with Restricted Activities during the renewal. Rather, you will be asked to confirm competency through a declaration and create a learning goal in your continuing competence program to support a safe, ethical and competent practice with these activities.
Q: Why do I have to provide my business contact information to the CDBC?
The CDBC is required to collect and display your business contact information on its public register and make this information available to the public. In accordance to section 21(2) of the Health Professions Act , “the registrar must maintain a register setting out, for every person granted registration under this Act, the following:
(a) the person's name, whether the person is a registrant or a former registrant, and, if the person is a registrant, the person's business address and business telephone number;
(b) the class of registrants in which the person is or was registered;
(c) if the person is a registrant, any limits or conditions imposed under this Act on the practice of the designated health profession by the registrant;
(d) a notation of each cancellation or suspension of the person's registration, including any cancellation or suspension that
(i) occurred or was recorded before the coming into force of this subsection, or
(ii) was imposed by the governing body for a health profession under a former enactment regulating the health profession;
(e) any additional information required under the regulations of the minister;
(f) any additional information required under the bylaws of the college;
(g) any additional information specified under subsection (5) by the registration committee, inquiry committee or discipline committee.”
The College’s Privacy Statement provides additional information on how the CDBC complies with BC privacy legislation while meeting its mandate of public protection.

Q: I am a temporary registrant and will register with restricted activities for the first time. Do I need my supervisor or employer to sign off on it?
No, not for the College registration. Employers may have additional requirement for practicing restricted activities depending on their organizational requirements, whether it is a specific training or an assessment by a more experienced colleague. As registrant of the College, you are expected to recognize the limit of your personal scope of practice and know about practice readiness. If your internship has not provided a lot of exposure with restricted activities and you are unsure if you would be able to practice them safely on your own, do not register with RA. Registering with RA without sufficient competencies is a serious risk.
