CDBG Applications Now Open for 2022–2023

Applications for the 2022–2023 CDBG Program Year are now open. Applicants may begin creating and submitting applications effective immediately at https://www.zoomgrants.com/zgf/South_Jordan_2022_CDBG.

Applications are due Monday, January 31 at 11:59 p.m. We encourage organizations to begin and complete their applications as soon as possible. The ZoomGrants platform can sometimes be slow.

For help prepping application materials, determining activity eligibility, or any other questions, contact the CDBG Coordinator (info below).

Who can apply?

Only organizations can apply for a grant to provide a CDBG-eligible activity (public service, housing services). No business grants will be offered through this funding. Individuals in need of services should refer to our current service providers below to receive assistance. The organizations below have received CDBG funds and are ready to help.

When will funds be awarded?

After review, the CDBG Committee will recommend applicants for funding to City Council at a public hearing in early spring. (Notices of this hearing will be posted on the CDBG site and in this newsletter.) Following council approval, tentative decisions are submitted to HUD for final approval. Funds are typically made available to successful applicants on July 1.

What qualifies as low- to moderate-income?

For a household of four, the current annual income limit is $73,750. Income is calculated from now going forward. If you’ve recently suffered a loss of income, you may qualify, even if your income was previously higher. To see the limits for all household sizes, click below. Those over 65, disabled adults, migrant farm workers, and those experiencing homelessness or domestic violence qualify regardless of income.

What is CDBG?

The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program is sponsored by HUD. The program purpose is to assist low- and moderate-income (LMI) individuals and households by creating suitable living environments, providing decent housing, and creating economic opportunities. Through an application and citizen participation process, South Jordan City administers grant funds to eligible activities that meet the national objective of benefitting low- and moderate-income individuals.

Available Services

The City funds services for residents through several partnerships. If you or someone you know is in need of services, please reach out directly to the following entities.

MORTGAGE ASSISTANCE

Community Development Corporation of Utah can make mortgage payments for qualified households financially affected by the pandemic.

RENTAL ASSISTANCE

Utah Community Action helps with case management and emergency rental payments.

FOOD

Utah Community Action’s Food Pantry provides families with emergency food supplies.

MENTAL HEALTH

Suncrest Counseling provides four free counseling sessions to low- and moderate-income residents affected by the pandemic in any way. Call Victoria at the South Jordan location to schedule.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ASSISTANCE

South Valley Services provides shelter and other services to those experiencing dating and domestic violence.
The Legal Aid Society of Salt Lake helps those experiencing dating and domestic violence with legal needs.

HOME REPAIRS

Assist provides low- and moderate-income residents and those over 65 with help paying for and completing critical home repairs and accessibility modifications.

HOMELESS SERVICES

The Road Home and the INN Between are available to assist those experiencing homelessness, including those needing medical care.
