Dear Assumption Study Abroad Students and Parents,
As you know, Assumption has temporarily suspended operations at its Rome Campus due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) situation in Italy as well as the Level 3 and Level 4 Travel Advisories that urge individuals to reconsider travel and not travel to certain areas of the country, respectively. Those students will return to the Unites States on Friday. Following a 14-day period, they are welcome to return to campus, if they so choose.
We have learned that the
Centers for Disease Control (CDC)
has issued new guidance with regard to student foreign travel for colleges and universities. This
states, that colleges and universities should consider:
- Postponing or canceling foreign exchange programs
- Asking current program participants to return to the United States
The CDC advises that “students may face unpredictable circumstances, travel restrictions, challenges in returning home or accessing health care while abroad.” Unlike our Rome Campus, we cannot dictate the operations of third-party study abroad providers. However, please know that Assumption students participating in these study abroad programs still have the option to return to the United States, where Assumption will develop a program that enables them to complete their course of study.
Regardless of your decision, College officials will continue to monitor travel advisories and information regarding coronavirus in Australia, England, Ireland, Singapore, Spain and those ports where the Semester at Sea is scheduled to visit.
Should you have any questions, please contact Assumption’s Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs
