Watch the 8th Annual MGB Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Summit | |
The MGB Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, along with CDI who was part of the DEI Summit Advisory Committee, extends a heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated in the 8th Annual MGB DEI Summit on September 16.
Over 300 people gathered in person at the Markell Conference Center, and more than 800 tuned in virtually to engage with inspiring guest speakers, leaders from across Mass General Brigham, and colleagues who shared insights on belonging, inclusive leadership, and more. If you missed the event or would like to watch it again, the summit is available on demand or via Dropbox here. MGH/MGB/HMS Leadership Position Opportunities | |
Search for Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs at HMS | |
We invite you to apply or to nominate those at MGH whom you think would be appropriate candidates for this key HMS leadership position.
The HMS Office for Faculty Affairs (OFA) is responsible for the strategic leadership, oversight, planning, and implementation for the Faculty of Medicine, including the recruitment, retention, academic promotion, and career advancement of our 12,000+ faculty.
The Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs reports to the Dean for Faculty Affairs and serves on the core leadership team for the OFA. This individual has an expansive, full-time senior leadership role within the Office, across the University, HMS and HSDM, affiliated institutions, and externally through engagement in national venues. They will have expertise in and oversight of all professorial processes related to faculty recruitment, appointments, and promotion for the Faculty of Medicine, as well as endowed professorships.

Nneka N. Ufere, MD MSCE
Gastroenterologist | Transplant Hepatologist
Assistant Professor of Medicine, Gastroenterology, Mass General Hospital and Harvard Medical School
In this month’s Humans of CDI, we feature the remarkable Dr. Nneka N. Ufere, a transplant hepatologist and Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Mass General Hospital. Dr. Ufere is a leading expert in palliative care for patients with cirrhosis, dedicated to improving quality of life and care for these patients and their families.
In this interview, Dr. Ufere reflects on how the CDI Physician/Scientist Development Award has expanded her research capacity and discusses her commitment to mentoring future leaders in medicine. She shares, "Seeing the SRTP students really highlights the depth of what students can accomplish when provided with opportunity and support."

The Harvard Medical School (HMS) Chapter of the Student National Medical Association (SNMA) will be hosting this year’s Regional Medical Education Conference (RMEC) on October 5th at HMS. The event will bring together underrepresented medical and pre-medical students from across New England to learn from Boston's physicians.

Empowering Voices: Strategies for Involving Individuals with Disabilities in Research
The presentation of 4 subject matter experts (Zary Amirhosseini, Jeanhee Chung, Willyanne DeCormier Plosky, and Martha Jones) will speak on the current state of disability representation in research, the importance and potential impact of improving disability representation, explanation of the legal and ethical framework for inclusion (ADA, Section 504/Rehabilitation Act) and actionable steps for enhancing the inclusion of persons with disabilities in research.

Volunteer to Support Immigrants in MA | |
The MGH Center for Immigrant Health's partner organization, Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy (MIRA) Coalition, is urgently seeking volunteers to help out at Temporary Protected Status (TPS) legal clinics in Randolph, MA, from Monday, 9/30 through Thursday, 10/10. These clinics assist residents of emergency assistance (EA) shelters in applying for TPS, which will allow them to live and work in the United States as long as this legal status is available to them. Volunteering at a TPS clinic does not require any special qualifications and is a meaningful opportunity to show solidarity with our immigrant community. Learn more and sign up here.

Allison Bryant Mantha, MD, MPH, associate chief health equity officer, Mass General Brigham, and Frederic D. Frigoletto, MD endowed chair, MGH Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, received the Rosalind Franklin Society (RFS) Award in Science for her paper titled, “A Health System Framework for Addressing Structural Racism: Mass General Brigham's United Against Racism Initiative.” This award recognizes an outstanding paper by a woman or underrepresented minority in science to highlight the important contributions of these scientists and provide role models and mentors for younger scientists.

Shadi Kourosh, MD, MPH, Department of Dermatology, received the 2024 Humanitarian Award from the International League of Dermatology Societies (ILDS). This award recognizes individuals in the global dermatology community who have made an outstanding contribution in either international leadership or humanitarian dermatology. Kourosh was honored for championing advocacy for patients affected by human trafficking and building infrastructure in the medical community to assist these patients.

Renee N. Salas, MD, MS, MPH, Department of Emergency Medicine, received the 2024 Public Health Innovator Award from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. This award recognizes an alumna/us for their innovative idea or approach to public health delivery via science, practice or education in public health. Salas was recognized for her work in bringing together public health and medicine to address the climate crisis.

Fatima Cody Stanford, MD, MPH, MPA, MBA, obesity medicine physician-scientist, Neuroendocrine Unit, Pediatric Endocrinology, MGH Weight Center, received the 2024 Meritorious Achievement Award from the National Medical Association. This award recognizes a physician with national and international achievement and prominence for exceptional work in medical service, medical research and academic medicine.
