Looking back at this past year, I think we can all agree that 2020 was a year unlike any other. While I’m sure many of us would like to put it far into the rear-view mirror, I’d like to take a moment to thank the members of CDMA for their dedication and support to the mission of our group, which has been important more than ever during this pandemic.
We saw data take centerstage on a variety of national fronts in how COVID-19 cases were tracked and modeled. For DOTs this meant tracking key differences in the movement of people, vehicles, and goods, and starting important cross-cutting narratives across our industry on topics like:
• The future of telework and impact on commuting patterns
• The importance of cybersecurity with enhanced remote work
It’s great to see our subcommittees already working through these topics!
Lastly, thanks to Lou Anne Daugherty, Nebraska DOT, and Will Lusk from AASHTO staff for their help in pulling this inaugural newsletter together. April and I look forward to connecting with you all in the new year!

2021: The Year of the Subcommittee
|
|
To specify which CDMA subcommittee you would like to join, e-mail Penelope Weinberger at pweinberger@aashto.org before January 31
|
|
The Committee on Data Management & Analytics (CDMA) will continue the initiative in early 2021 to fill its subcommittees. Don’t make our joke a necessary reality, that all voting and non-voting committee members will be randomly assigned to a subcommittee to ensure robust participation in each:
|
|
-
Subcommittee on Professional Development - Addresses issues of professional development and capacity building
-
Subcommittee on Policy - Addresses policy issues regarding data
-
Subcommittee on Research - Addresses research needs and issues
-
Technical Services Subcommittee - Oversees technical services and programs under the Data Committee such as GOTUG, Gis-T and any others that are developed
-
Subcommittee on Outreach and Coordination - Maintains relationships with other committees and organizations as pertinent to Committee business
-
Subcommittee on Communicating Data - Addresses communication issues around data, data needs, gaps, research, outreach, and as needs arise
-
Cybersecurity Subcommittee - This subcommittee works jointly with Operations and Resiliency (TSSR) on issues of cybersecurity
Additional information on these bodies can be accessed by visiting https://data.transportation.org/leadership/. Although subcommittee membership is not limited to Committee Members, it is vetted by Subcommittee chairs and approved by the Chair.
Thanks for your consideration to lend your expertise, passion and talent to one of CDMA's subcommittees.
