Welcome

Last week saw the CDN Annual Awards 2016, a key spot in the college calendar. As one participant said, 'It's a really important high point in the year to celebrate the achievements of so many people and their organisations.' Many thanks to all the colleges that submitted an entry. Following the launch of the College Board Members Hub, a dedicated online space, we are delighted with the uptake - to date, 134 Board Members have registered from 10 colleges or Regional Boards - a great start! We also have a number of exciting events coming up, including one around gamification.

College Board Members Hub
Launched by the Minister for Further Education, Higher Education and Science , Shirley-Anne Somerville, at the CDN College Board Members' Co nference in October, the College Board Members Hub provides access to key training courses and supporting resources in a safe, interactive online environment. Within the first few days of launching, the Hub attracted over 130 Board Member sign ups.
Please contact your Board Secretary to be signed up to the Hub.

Strategic Curriculum Leaders Forum
Identified as a need by the CDN Development Committee, the Strategic Curriculum Leaders Forum met for the first time in October. The first session focused on the new quality arrangements and was jointly facilitated with Education Scotland. The next event will focus on how colleges can work with the eight SFC funded Innovation Centres following the publication of the Reid Independent Review.

Annual Awards 2016
Many thanks to all colleges who submitted an entry for this year's CDN Annual Awards. We know how much effort goes into writing these entries and the result is a wonderful way to celebrate the best of what is happening in colleges today. 'Keep it going!', said one participant, 'It's a great event for the sector and should attract even greater support in future years.'

Still Game (to Learn)
Scotland has a rich recent history of nurturing a games-based learning approach to learning and teaching. This event will explore whether and how games can and are transforming learning. It will see the launch of a new game for the construction industry as well as some great examples of gamification in a college context.
