April 2025 NEWSLETTER

Dear CDOC Community,

April is National Minority Health Month and National Cancer Control Month. Together, these observances invite us to engage in activities aimed at increasing uptake of evidence-based cancer prevention and control strategies, particularly among minoritized racial and ethnic communities. National Minority Health Month aims to raise awareness of the disproportionate burden of illness and premature death among members of minoritized groups, and to take action to end these persistent disparities. National Cancer Control Month encourages action through outreach, education, prevention, early detection, and linkage to timely treatment. We invite you to view The American Cancer Society’s video on addressing cancer health disparities and download the free discussion guide to continue the conversation within your cancer control program and local community. To learn more, click here.

Lastly, the CCCP 2023-2024 Program Evaluation Report: Findings at a Glance is now available on the CDOC website! Each year, California’s Comprehensive Cancer Control Program (CCCP) and the California Dialogue on Cancer (CDOC) conducts a comprehensive evaluation to monitor progress and assess outcome measures of the CCCP. Look out for a webinar this spring that will showcase the Comp Cancer Program Evaluation Report Findings. Save the date! Chapter 5: Cancer Related Health Disparities

The State Cancer Plan aims to drive the elimination of cancer-related disparities in California. Causes of cancer disparities lie at both the individual and system levels. They include multiple factors such as access to care, provider bias, cultural barriers, inapplicable health models, systemic oppression, low socioeconomic status and other policy or environmental issues that compound on one another.
