Finally, some good news!

Operation Gold Phish sting results in 7 arrests over $2 million in scams.

The U.S. Dept of Justice announced that a few bad guys were finally arrested. Good riddance!

Seven people in the Chicago area were arrested for allegedly bilking Internet users of at least $2 million in online scams over the past two years.

Their arrests took place two weeks after each was charged with conspiracy to commit a wire fraud scheme, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois. If convicted, the defendants face a maximum 20 years in prison.

For two years, their victims became an "unwitting money mule" for the defendants, according to an FBI affidavit. The defendants slowly built a connection with the victims, posing as their romantic partner or boss before requesting deposits into bank accounts they opened under fake passports. Some platforms used to seek out these victims include Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Match.com.

Biometric Hacking & Cloud Attacks Among Top Cyberthreats For 2019

First up, biometric hacking which is, according to Experian's sixth annual Data Breach Industry Forecast, when attackers zero in to expose vulnerabilities in touch ID sensors, facial recognition, and passcodes. According to Experian, "Biometric data is considered the most secure method of authentication, but it can be stolen or altered, and sensors can be manipulated and spoofed or deteriorate with too much use."
Experian's other four data breach predictions for 2019 are:
  1. Skimming is the next frontier for an enterprise wide attack on a major financial institution's national network, which could result in millions of losses.
  2. A major wireless carrier will be attacked with a simultaneous effect on both iPhones and Android, stealing personal information from millions of consumers and possibly disabling all wireless communications in the U.S.
  3. It's a matter of when, not if, a top cloud vendor will suffer a breach, compromising the sensitive information of major companies.
  4. The online gaming community will be an emerging hacker target, with cybercriminals posing as gamers and gaining access to the computers and personal data of trusting players.
"Hackers have become very nimble at outsmarting protection measures. Cybercriminals always seem to stay a step ahead of new security gates," said Michael Bruemmer, vice president of Data Breach Resolution at Experian.

Customer Kudos    Like us on Facebook

I want you to know that a big part of my decision for awarding CDS the new lease is Chris Korando, MFP Service Tech, Marion.   His support is very important to our business.   With 1800 employees and 14 copier/printers, we simply cannot afford to have a unit broken.   He and his team are always here quickly and make sure that the repairs are done correctly and completely.   It is difficult to quantify the value of good service, but it was a big factor in my decision matrix.

Best regards,

Jeff C.,  Purchasing Manager,  Aisin Mfg.,  Marion, IL

I wanted to take a moment to sing the praises of the CDS help desk crew.  A few of our customers have reached out to me with feedback on their interactions with the CDS help desk so far and they have all been EXTREMELY pleased.

Haire Vet clinic was extremely impressed with how quickly their iMac was fixed. Keltech Management, Lincoln Square, mentioned too that the help desk was friendly and very professional when they called.  There are a few other cases as well.

In short, I just want to let you all know what a great job you are doing.  Some of our "Tech Guy" customers were hesitant with having to call into a different person, but I know they are now quickly seeing the benefits the CDS team has to offer.

Keep up the great work and THANK YOU!
