Inclusive Energy Innovation Prize

The American-Made Challenges series are sponsored by DOE’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, this prize aims to fund organizations for ongoing and/or proposed activities related to climate and clean energy that support, build trust, and strengthen relationships and partnerships with disadvantaged communities. Specifically, this prize seeks to enable and enhance business and technology incubation, acceleration, and other community-based and university-based entrepreneurship and innovation in climate and clean energy technologies.

Undergraduate Research Opportunity: CAES-Idaho National Laboratory

This 10-week program will enable 10 undergraduate students from Idaho’s 2-year and 4-year institutions, and universities from across the nation, to work alongside faculty from Boise State University, Idaho State University and the University of Idaho at the Center for Advanced Energy Studies headquarters located near the Idaho National Laboratory Research Campus in Idaho Falls. Students will work on projects related to advanced manufacturing in collaboration with university faculty and scientists from Idaho National Laboratory (INL). The selected research projects will leverage new capabilities in the CAES facility, including a state-of-the-art transmission electron microscope and a suite of instruments for advanced manufacturing of sensors and instrumentation for extreme environments. The program will run from May 23 through July 29, 2022.

Undergraduate Research Opportunity: MSU Center for Biofilm Engineering

EB-REU is a 10-week summer program designed to engage undergraduates in a research project aimed at discovering new ways to grow, understand, and use extremophilic biofilms for human benefit. The program provides participants with a $6000 stipend, and covers the costs of on-campus housing, plus partial support for food and travel to the REU site. No prior research experience or formal coursework in biofilm science or thermal biology is required to apply. The program will run from May 31 through August 5, 2022.

Campus Greenhouse Gas Emissions Intern

The University of Wyoming Campus Sustainability Committee is seeking a spring student intern to complete the University’s annual greenhouse gas emissions inventory for Fiscal Year 2021. Emissions tracking is a key component of UW’s sustainability efforts, which are tracked by the Sustainability Tracking, Rating, and Assessment tool. The intern will work with staff across campus to compile data, complete reports and update the procedure manual. The internship will be about 10-12 hours per week during the spring semester and be paid a stipend of $1800.

Basin Electric Power Cooperative

Basin Electric Power Cooperative is hiring interns this summer at the Laramie River Station in Wheatland as well as at the Dry Fork Station in Gillette.


Laramie River Station: This temporary position assists the Engineering section with engineering document creation and editing, equipment walk downs, equipment data collection, assisting with small projects, and helping with organizing and updating the drawing system. Hathaway LLC, a California based oil and gas company, is seeking an intern to assist with monetizing equipment assets, supporting their oil and gas wastewater processing/recycling projects, and also working with operations on the 200+ oil and gas wells.


This is an 8-10 week internship with preference given to Petroleum or Mechanical Engineering seniors. It will be located in Bakersfield, CA, and housing will be provided. Intern will be selected based on past work history and GPA, and will be compensated with $22-28 an hour.
