Child welfare agencies along with mental health providers have come to recognize the need for timely, appropriate, and effective depression treatment services that support children and families in achieving successful outcomes.
In general, a parent's mental health status can affect their parental effectiveness as it relates to bonding and attachment; age appropriate discipline and play; limit setting; and supervision and protection from dangerous situations.
While the child welfare system has historically focused on the physical and safety needs of children, emerging practice within agencies across the country is to now take into account the emotional needs of children as well.
These handouts highlight some CEBC resources that may help address depression in children/adolescents and adults.
