Yearbook Cover Contest

This year I would like to have a custom yearbook cover featuring a student's art piece. This can be a drawing, painting, or photo. I would like the art to represent the school, it could be a drawing of a lion (our mascot) or a photo of the school with some cool effects. We are looking for some creative ideas on how to personalize your yearbook cover. The deadline will be Nov. 1st. All submissions will be considered and voted on but only one can win the coveted cover. If you are interested or have an idea that you'd like to present, please send me an email at stephanie.campbell@coloradoearlycolleges.org

School Lunch

For more information on supporting Free Healthy School Meals for All

Student lunch accounts, registration, and the Free and Reduced Lunch application is found HERE: Colorado Early Colleges (Castle Rock and Douglas County

North).

School meals are currently free through December 2025 due to Healthy School Meals for All. Although, this program may be eliminated effective January 2026 pending the outcome of two ballot initiatives in November.

Do I need to register for a school lunch account?

Yes, the lunch account is where you can manage your students' lunch information, make payments (if needed), submit meal applications, and more.

Do I need to complete a Free and Reduced Lunch application?

Yes! Although meals are currently available for free for all students, this may change in January 2026. Filling out the FRL may qualify your student for free or reduced lunches should the Healthy School Meals for All program be eliminated.

Application benefits may also include:

Wave fees: school, athletics, transportation, graduation, etc.

     SAT Exam and/or book fees

     S-EBT

     More funding for our school

Even if you don't believe you qualify for FIR Lunch, families should still fill out the meal application form as this maximizes federal reimbursement and can make our school eligible for more programs.

How do I complete the F/R Lunch meal application? Applications are available HERE.

A step-by-step process is included in the flyer attached to this email. Paper copies are also available at school if you prefer to complete them in paper format.

Supplemental Instruction

Supplemental Instruction & Pass/Fail Grading

  • This course is graded as Pass/Fail and is worth 0.25 credits per semester.
  • To pass, students must earn 70% or higher.
  • 70–100% = Pass (P)
  • 69% or below = Fail (F)
  • A failing grade does affect GPA and may lead to Academic Accountability if:
  • The student fails one or more classes, or
  • Their overall GPA drops below 2.0.

How the Grade Is Calculated:

  • Based on attendance and participation.
  • Missing too many classes can result in a failing grade.

Early Dismissal for Sports/Activities

Early Dismissal for Sports & Activities

Early dismissal for sports or school activities is a privilege, not a right, and may be revoked if misused, and students must remain in good standing in academics, attendance, and behavior. Here’s what students and families need to know:

1 - Eligibility:

  • Students must be participating in a school-related activity.
  • Approval requires a completed form from the front office or Dean of Students.
  • Coaches must also sign the form. Students should also inform their coach that they may still be a few minutes late to practice.

2 - Class Attendance:

  • Students must attend Supplemental Instruction and stay until the teacher releases them.
  • Dismissal is typically 10–15 minutes early, around 2:55–3:00 PM.
  • Leaving early without permission will be marked as an unexcused absence.

3 - Signing Out:

  • Once released, students must sign out at the front office.

4 - Games or Competitions:

  • Follow the same process as for appointments:
  • Call the attendance line.
  • Sign out at the main office when picking up your student.
  • If your student drives, notify the attendance line so they can sign themselves out.

*Castle View and Douglas County HS are aware of our dismissal process and have instructed coaches of our process and that CEC students may be a few minutes late to practice. They also inform coaches that CEC students will not be penalized for their late arrival to practice.

Scholarship Resources for All Grades

Did you know that it is never too early to start applying for scholarships? High School Freshmen to College Seniors should always be on the lookout for different scholarship opportunities.

Here are some resources to help get you started:

College/Career Opportunities

Professional Digital Portfolio!

Students can build a professional digital portfolio through Tallo, an online platform that connects high school and college students to jobs, internships, scholarships and colleges. Major companies recruit from this platform for highly competitive internships through Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Wal-Mart and more.

Go to https://tallo.com/talent/ to learn more!

Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for (audience)? Why should they care (benefit)? What do I want them to do (call-to-action)?

Create a great offer by adding words like "free," "personalized," "complimentary," or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take action, so consider inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining!"
