Thanksgiving Break Resources
While the holidays are often a time for friends and family, we recognize that they can also be stressful. Although some people look forward to an extended break, others may struggle with a lack of structure, and while some people look forward to opportunities "to let loose," others may experience difficulty maintaining their recovery or with pressure from peers.
If you are concerned that your student may be experiencing changes in their mood or experiencing suicidal behaviors or thoughts, please remember to:
- Stay with the student until you are sure they are safe.
- If there is an immediate threat to your student or other students, call 911.

Virtual Perfectionism Workshop

"DECA Districts was an amazing and eye opening experience. I loved the problem solving element and putting myself in a new environment. It opened a new door for me around networking and learning more about business and marketing. The entire event was incredibly fun and I think that there is an event for everyone. I truly believe so many people could succeed in a DECA competition and have an amazing time!"

Music Ensemble Needs Your Help
One of the amazing programs that we offer here at CEC DC North is Music Ensemble, where our talented students get to rehearse and perform a variety of music. Yet not all students who are in Music Ensemble own an instrument- that's where our amazing CEC community comes in! We need any small instruments and/or music equipment donations in order to offer all students this wonderful opportunity. We are especially in need of guitars, amps and any small instruments;
no pianos please!

Some important things to remember, as the weather continues to change and we officially head into the winter season:
- Flu Season is here!
- Hand Washing is so important! Please remind your students to wash their hands and cough into their elbows. Talk to your student’s physician about getting an annual flu shot if interested.
- Cold Weather:
- The cold weather has arrived and the students still enjoy getting outside. Please speak with your student to make sure they have the appropriate outerwear at school. This includes hats, gloves, scarves, winter jackets, etc.
-
If your child has a physical during the school year, please be sure to send in a copy for their medical record here at school.
- Mandated Health Screenings:
- The nurse and health tech are completing state-mandated hearing and vision screenings for all students. Please reach out to the health office with any questions regarding vision or hearing referrals that may be sent home in the near future.
-
The school health clinic is not allowed to give out Tylenol, Ibuprofen, cough drops, Tums, etc. We do not have a standing order for these medications as of yet and a new policy would need to be drafted and written by our board. If your student needs medication that is over the counter, they can come pick up a medication authorization form and a self carry form from the health clinic and it will need to be filled out by parent and physician. Students are only allowed to carry one days worth of an over the counter medication and it has to be approved by the school nurse. It also must stay in it's original bottle. Students are not allowed to share medications with one another. All prescriptions must remain in the health clinic, unless it is a rescue medication (Epi-Pen, Glucagon, Baqsimi, or any other emergency medication that the school nurse deems as safe to carry). Please reach out to the health clinic with any questions.
Have a Wonderful Holiday!
