Care Kit Donations

Dear Parents and Guardians of CEC,

We hope this message finds you well. We are reaching out to you today on behalf of our local Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) chapter. We have an exciting and meaningful initiative that we would like to share with you, and we need your support to make it a success.

HOSA is dedicated to empowering future healthcare professionals, fostering leadership skills, and promoting health and wellness within our community. One of our ongoing projects focuses on providing essential care and support to cancer patients within UC Health during their challenging journey.

This year, our HOSA chapter has taken on the noble endeavor of creating Cancer Patient Care Kits. These kits will contain items that offer comfort and support to individuals undergoing cancer treatment. Some of the items we plan to include are new warm blankets, soothing teas, new books, inspirational messages, and personal care items. These kits will not only provide physical relief but also serve as a source of encouragement and hope for those battling cancer.

To bring this project to fruition, we are seeking donations from the CEC parents and guardians. Your generous contributions will enable us to assemble these care kits and distribute them to cancer patients in UC Health. Every donation, no matter the size or amount, will make a significant difference in brightening the lives of those in need.

Here's how you can contribute:

1. Monetary Donations: You can make a monetary donation via cash or check given to Mrs. Phillips or Mrs. Tommi. Your financial support will help us purchase the necessary items for the care kits and cover distribution costs.

2. In-Kind Donations: If you have any of the following items to spare, we would greatly appreciate your contributions.

Please make sure these items are new and unused!

• Adult coloring books and pens or pencils

• Journals so they can doodle or take notes

• A list of movies, TV shows, audiobooks, or podcasts to watch or listen to during treatment

• An extra phone or tablet charger to keep in their bag

• New books by a favorite author

• Comfortable headphones so they can listen to a phone or tablet while in treatment

• Travel-sized games to play alone or with someone else

• Sleep masks to help ease the discomfort of bright, fluorescent lights

• Notes of support and encouragement, handmade cards

• Tea to reduce nausea: Buddha Teas Ginger Root Tea Bags

• Beeswax lip balm

• Fleece lined or super soft socks

• Lotion for sensitive skin like Aveeno Calm

• Snacks – single sized packs of crackers, fruit snacks, etc.

• Packs of hard candy, lozenges (ginger chews help with nausea), or gum

Please drop off all items in the donation bin located next to the nurse’s office or give directly to Mrs. Phillips.

Thank you in advance for your generosity and support. Your support means the world to us and to the cancer patients we aim to assist. Together, we can make a positive impact on their lives and offer a ray of hope during their difficult journey. If you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

Warm regards,

CEC’s HOSA chapter

Scholarship Search

Scholarship Spreadsheet + Databases (2023-2024)

The Advising Team is compiling a list of scholarships for students to use as a tool to help in the search process. This scholarship list has links to scholarship applications, scholarship eligibility information, and more. This list even organizes scholarships based on whether it’s in-state vs out-of-state, merit versus need-based, and other qualifying factors—making it easy to find the scholarships you are more likely to be eligible for. Additionally, the last tab on the spreadsheet has links to databases so you can create your own account and be matched to scholarships (if you so choose, please refer to the disclaimers to learn more before making the decision to create a scholarship database account). This list will be updated throughout the semester and school year, so check back often!

SCHOLARSHIP SPREADSHEET + DATABASES LINK

If you have any questions about this list or other scholarships, please contact your advisor.

**DISCLAIMER ABOUT USING SCHOLARSHIP SEARCH ENGINES/DATABASES**

1. Never pay to search for scholarships.

2. If you find a scholarship through a search engine, look up the scholarship through an online search, such as Google. Confirm it is valid and use the application connected directly with the organization, rather than completing one through a search engine. If you wish to make an account with a scholarship search for the ease of compiling scholarships, that is at your own discretion.

3. Be leery of entering information into a scholarship search engine. Rarely are scholarships awarded through the search engines. Often, they are simply gathering student information. Please be aware of this business practice many scholarship search engines have (such as Big Future/College Board and Niche) of collecting and selling student data. Protect your identity and be careful of entering information into scholarship search engines.
