INTRODUCING MR. DAN HOFFMAN, HEAD OF SCHOOL
|
|
Dan Hoffman grew up on the south side of Chicago before attending Occidental College in Los Angeles. Since graduating, Dan has lived and worked in many cities and countries around the globe. He has worked with high school students for over 13 years. Dan started his career leading students on wilderness adventures and service-learning trips in India and Ecuador. Eventually, he moved into classroom teaching, instructing classes across the Humanities from Entrepreneurship to AP US History. For five years Dan lived and worked with high school students at a boarding school in Estes Park, Colorado where he was a House Parent and Social Studies and English teacher. Most recently, Dan was the High School Director at STEM School Highlands Ranch.
Dan is passionate about making learning relevant and meaningful for high school students while simultaneously preparing them for their next steps in life. Dan is excited about the mission of Colorado Early Colleges and making sure every student, no matter who they are, is given the best chance to pursue their passions and their goals.
When Dan isn't working he is busy teaching his five-year-old daughter and two-year-old son how to bike and swim.
Dan will start at Colorado Early Colleges Parker as Head of School after spring break this year and is excited to meet students, parents, and teachers.

BINAXNOW COVID TESTS
We are excited to announce that the State of Colorado has allocated BinaxNOW Rapid Point-of-Care Antigen COVID-19 tests to Colorado Early Colleges. These tests can be used to detect COVID-19 and will be available to students and staff at CEC. Written parental consent will be required prior to a student being tested. If a student or staff member is exhibiting symptoms or it has been at least 5 days since they have been exposed to COVID-19, they are eligible to take the BinaxNOW test to help identify a positive case. BinaxNOW tests are not as sensitive as PCR tests and may miss an active COVID-19 infection. A follow-up PCR test is recommended to confirm a negative test result if an individual is reporting symptoms, has a known exposure to COVID-19, or lives/has traveled to an area with high rates of COVID-19. The BinaxNOW tests are a great tool in our tool belt to help keep our staff and students safe and remain in-person for learning. Please reach out to Ashley Bose, our CEC Douglas County school nurse, with any questions or concerns (ashley.bose@coloradoearlycolleges.org).

Scholarship Resources for All Grades
Did you know that it is never too early to start applying for scholarships? High School Freshmen to College Seniors should always be on the look out for different scholarship opportunities.
Here are some resources to help get you started:

Interact/Young Rotary
Interact/Young Rotary is a service organization sponsored by the Cherry Creek Valley Rotary Club here in Parker. We organize fundraisers and other service events that benefit the school, the community, and the world. To learn more join us at our weekly meetings on Friday afternoons!
Meeting Times: Fridays at 1pm
Meeting Style: Virtual (email Ms. Hedberg for link)
Ethics Bowl Club
Ethic Bowls are competitive yet collaborative events in which students discuss real-life ethical issues. In each round of competition, teams take turns analyzing cases about complex ethical dilemmas and responding to questions and comments from the other team and from a panel of judges. An ethics bowl differs from a debate competition in that students are not assigned opposing views; rather, they defend whichever position they think is correct, provide each other with constructive criticism, and win by demonstrating that they have thought rigorously and systematically about the cases and engaged respectfully and supportively with all participants. If you would like to join the team, please e-mail Dr. Rhodes at ruth.rhodes@coloradoearlycolleges.org.
Meeting Times: Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8am
Meeting Style: Virtual (email Dr. Rhodes for link)

Medical Club
This club is a great opportunity for anyone interested in healthcare and learning more about the medical field, as well as being involved in the school!
Previously, we’ve planned events such as breast cancer awareness month, blood drives, and a winter formal/informal dance. We plan to continue staying an active part of the schools community even through COVID-19.
