The advising calendar is now open!
Advising will begin Tues, March 22nd.
Note: Seniors who are graduating do not need to schedule an appointment since they are not enrolling in fall courses.
ATTN GRADUATING SENIORS
It is your responsibility to do a degree check with your community college advisor and confirm your associate degree with the college you are earning your associate degree from. As a reminder, you will not receive your high school diploma unless you have met 1 of the following degree requirements: Associate degree completion, 60+ college credits, or a certificate. If you have any questions, please reach out to your CEC advisor.
Denver Metro College Fair
For Students and Families (yes, that means you too, 9th Graders!)
Free and open to the public, RMACAC fairs connect you with colleges and universities in one convenient location. After 2 years of being virtual, the Denver Metro College Fair is returning to an in-person event! Connect with Admissions Representatives to gather information, ask questions, and gain a contact for the schools on your list.
Date: Sunday, April 3, 2022
Time: 1:00 - 3:00p MDT
Location: Cherokee Trail High School, 25901 E Arapahoe Rd., Aurora, CO 80016
Parking and COVID information will be forthcoming.
Students: Register in advance with StriveScan by completing a quick form. After you sign up, StriveScan will send a barcode via text message and email. At the college fair, present your barcode to college representatives to receive more information about that college. The next day, you will receive an email with a report of all of the colleges and representatives you met, along with their contact information and social media profiles. Click here to learn what you need to know and do when attending a College Fair. Click here for a list of questions to ask the Admissions Reps.
Tip for the event: Create a professional sounding email address before registering that will serve as your alternative email to use during the college admissions process. In high school, you will receive lots of emails from schools and websites you register with. Having an alternative account will help keep it organized.

Our Lions have P.R.I.D.E.! That's Prudence, Respect, Integrity, Determination & Grit, and Excellence! Pawprints are a way for teachers and staff members to recognize students for good character in and out of the classroom. Students can receive Pawprints for things like doing something nice, showing good character, or displaying grit in the classroom. Whenever students earn a PRIDE Pawprint ticket, they turn it into Scott Smith. Every 2-3 weeks, Mr. Smith draws a couple of winning tickets to whom he awards $10 gift cards.
This week, our Pawprint winners were Michael Wilkenson and Cadence Wuerflein. Way to go!

Meet Mr. Dave Schow, Our Facility Manager
I was raised in a family where my father was in the Air Force. I felt a huge privilege being able to travel to many places, including living in England and Germany for 6 years of my life. My parents were very good about making sure we got to know the countries by taking us to many of the cultural and historical sites while we lived there. Before I graduated from high school, I had visited 7 different countries in Europe.
My adult life led me to working in the telecommunications industry for many years. I started as a long-distance operator but held positions in Customer Service, IT, and HR. I managed to avoid many of the layoffs that occurred in that industry but through acquisitions and mergers, I was eventually impacted by a corporate downsizing in 2015. I started/purchased a Kona Ice franchise that served Parker and Aurora. In 2019 I went into facility management, most recently in a 163-apartment senior living community.
I am married to Sylvia, and we have 5 children and 6 grandchildren. Sylvia and I will be celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary this year. I have a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree.
For hobbies, I enjoy photography, solving problems and building things. My 9th great-grandfather was the last surviving male passenger from the Mayflower. He died in 1695 in what is now Dartmouth, Massachusetts. There were 10 people in my family (including my mom and dad). Everyone's birthday was celebrated but it only took 6 different dates in the year to celebrate all our birthdays.

Meet Ms. Jaycee Henderson, Our Spanish Teacher
I was born and raised in St. Joseph, Missouri. I spent a lot of my time playing sports, spending time with my family, and traveling in the summers. When I was 16, I was fortunate enough to get to travel to Europe in a small group, and my love for traveling truly ignited. Later, shortly after graduation, I got to experience traveling to Latin America for something other than vacation. I traveled to Costa Rica and lived with a host family, and my love and appreciation for the Spanish language grew immensely. After high school, I moved to Joplin, Missouri where I completed my bachelor's degree in Spanish and K-12 Spanish Education.
Throughout college, I was able to partake in many interesting and shaping internships. I was able to teach and intern at a dual-language school in Carthage, MO, where I worked with native, non-native, and heritage speakers of Spanish in a first grade classroom. I then went on to intern in an upper division Spanish conversation course where I helped pull students in the class to a higher proficiency level conversationally. I spent around 130 hours on Zoom throughout that semester and was able to truly see the confidence of those students grow.
I am getting married next month to my fiancé, David, who I met in Costa Rica five years ago. We have no children, but we do have a beautiful German Shepherd who is spoiled beyond belief.
I recently returned home from Costa Rica, where I, again, lived with a host family and taught English as a second language. My first experience there was truly impactful, and a piece of my heart will always be in Costa Rica. Since my initial trip, I have returned three other times, and I look forward to traveling even more in Latin America, but am hoping that Spain is the next destination on my map.
