Fentanyl Awareness Community Meeting

Date: Wednesday, October 9, 2024

Time: 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., doors open at 5:45 p.m.

Location: Innovation Auditorium, Colorado Early Colleges Fort Collins High School, 4424 Innovation Drive, Fort Collins, CO


Fort Collins Police Services and the Northern Colorado Drug Task Force will provide a joint presentation about this extremely potent and highly addictive drug:

  • Learn what fentanyl looks like and why it is so dangerous
  • Identify signs of someone using fentanyl
  • Understand how to talk to your family about the dangers of fentanyl and other drug use
  • Discover where to seek help if you or someone you love is addicted
  • Ask questions!

No registration is required. This presentation is open to middle school & high school age students and parents as some video clips may contain adult language.

School Picture Retakes

Did you miss School Picture Day? Not happy with how your original photos turned out? Don't worry - Retakes will be on Wednesday, October 23rd. Order forms will be available soon!

Parking Lot Safety Reminder

PLEASE DO NOT drop students off in the roundabout - this is causing a safety hazard for our students and other drivers. It only takes an extra 60 seconds to pull up to the drop-off point at the North end of the school's parking lot.

Free College-Level Tutoring

Students! Did you know that, in addition to CEC's free tutoring, you can also get College-Level tutoring directly from the Community Colleges? Scan the QR codes below to set your tutoring appointments.

Coding Club is Growing!

CEC's Coding Club is just beginning its second year, and it is already growing! Currently, 15 students are preparing for the upcoming Lockheed Martin CyberQuest competition in spring 2025. The need for coders and cybersecurity is growing exponentially, and we are so proud of these students for being on the front line of this exciting new career pathway! If you are interested in joining, Coding Club meets every Wednesday after school in rooms 228 & 229.

The coding club has divided into two groups:

Homecoming 2024

Homecoming is on the way! Saturday, October 26th, 6:30-9:30 pm. Guest passes will be available on October 1st, tickets go on sale October 9th for $10 at the bookstore.

Math Day Field Trip

Ms. Shappell will be hosting a field trip to CSU's Math Day on Thursday, November 14. Important details are listed below. 

  • The total number of students will be limited to 20.
  • We will travel as a group on the CEC bus to and from the event. This is an all-day event, approximately 8am to 2:30pm.
  • The cost per student is $25. If you wish to attend, but the cost is prohibitive, please talk to Ms. Shappell.
  • Students will be responsible for their own lunch. However, the CEC Bistro can provide a free sack lunch upon request.
  • There are competition opportunities!
  • Poster Contest: There are three categories: Math Models and Art, Original Math Research, and Math Ideas, History, Educational Innovations.
  • Quiz Bowl Tournament: We are guaranteed one team of three to compete in the tournament. However, we may be allowed a second team. Any interested participants will be required to work with Ms. Karppinen to prepare for the competition.

 

If you wish to save a place on the roster, please send a Teams message to Sandra Shappell saying, "Save My Spot." In your message, please indicate if you are also interested in either the poster contest or quiz-bowl tournament.

Fall Choir Concert

Something Old, Something New: Our amazing high school & middle school choirs would like to invite you to an evening of music! The Fall Choir Concert will take place on Thursday, September 26th at 6:30pm in the hs auditorium. We hope you can join us!

Parent Volunteers Needed

September is Suicide Prevention Month. Please contact our school counselor, Erica Koehler, if you would like to donate purple or teal yarn or googly eyes for a special awareness activity we will have available for students the week of September 23rd. OR you can volunteer your time to help w the activity on September 24th or 26th during our lunch periods (10:45-12:45ish). Manufacturing Day at Metro State

There are only 3 spots left!

Are you interested in a career in Manufacturing? Join Mrs. Staudacher on Friday, October 4th, from 7:40am - 2:00pm, on a field trip to learn more about this growing career field. The bus will leave promptly at 7:40am from CECFCHS. Lunch is provided.

There is only room for 12 students, so make sure you fill out & turn in your Permission Slip to Mrs. Staudacher in Rm 411 ASAP!

Permission slips may be obtained in room 411 from Mrs. Staudacher or from Ms. Stephanie at the front desk.

NOCOM - Manufacturing Trade Show

Only 10 spots left!

Join us for yet another Manufacturing Field Trip on Wednesday, October 9th from 11am - 1pm. The bus will depart from CECFCHS at 10:30am and will return by 1:30pm.

Lunch will be provided.

This is a great opportunity to learn about careers within the manufacturing industry and meet firsthand with manufacturers and find out who is looking to hire students!

This trip is open to the first 15 students to return the SIGNED permission slips to Mrs. Staudacher in room 411.

Reminders

Help for the Hungry

This month is Hunger Action Month, and our Wolf Pack is running the food drive to raise food for the Fort Collins Food Bank. Students can choose which teacher to whom they give their cans - the department with the most cans will sacrifice one teacher to get a Pie in the face! So please bring those cans in starting Monday, September 16th through Monday, September 30th. Please contact Mr. Clementz with questions.

The Adams Family Musical Auditions

Auditions for the upcoming musical will be held In-Person on Tuesday, October 1st & Thursday, October 3rd. Virtual Auditions need to be submitted by October 3rd. Please see the Bulletin Board outside of the Auditorium to get an Audition Form & Sign up! Please contact Sofia Shappell with questions.

Tutoring

Did you know that CEC provides 1-to-1 tutoring free of charge to students? Please click the button below to book your tutoring session. You will be charged only for missed appointments. + SAFETY, HEALTH & WELLNESS +

  • Hearing and Vision: We will be conducting free vision and hearings screenings in October. Please contact the health office for more information, concerns or questions. 
  • Illnesses: Please DO NOT SEND students to school if they are ill. 
  • Students must stay home for at least 24 hours after a fever has resolved without fever reducing medications to lower the fever
  • Students must stay home for at least 24 hours after vomiting and/or diarrhea without medications to reduce those symptoms
  • If your student has missed [5 consecutive days] or [7 days in a two-week period] due to illness, please provide medical documentation for these absences to be excused
  • Medications: If your student needs to take medications while at school, please contact the health office for required documentation. 
  • Health Conditions: Please inform the health office if your student has health conditions

CEC PARENT RESOURCES

Everyone is welcome!

No volunteering, no commitment.


Our Parent Resource Group meetings are friendly and casual, a place for parents to meet other CEC families and share stories, ask questions, and find information. Any questions brought up are placed as an agenda item for our SAC (School Accountability Committee) meetings with CEC Leadership.

SAC includes the Head of School (or designee), along with parents and community members, to offer guidance on academic action plans, budget priorities, safety issues and other areas.
