UPDATED DRESS CODE!
CEC chooses to adhere to a school dress code that ensures safety, professionalism, and instills student self-discipline. CEC wants staff and students to ‘be at their best’ while in an academic setting. CEC believes in having high expectations and standards to follow for every student, while encouraging a focus on their education and career. CEC Dress Code shall be enforced uniformly, fairly, and consistently for all students and prohibits students from wearing apparel that is deemed disruptive to the classroom environment or to the maintenance of a safe and orderly school.

Students must be in dress code at all times while on campus and during remote learning. This includes attending any school-supported/sponsored activity, tutoring appointments, and advising appointments during the year, including summer months.

Expectations:
Student IDs will be visible at all times when on campus for safety and security.
• Students should wear clothing that covers ALL undergarments and midriff.
• Tops must cover areas from one armpit across to the other armpit. Tank-top straps must be at least “4 fingers wide”; no spaghetti straps.
• Dresses, skirts, and shorts must be no shorter than midway between fingertip length and top of knee.
• Pajamas, slippers, blankets, and costumes are not allowed.
• Hats, beanies, hoods, or bandanas may not be worn inside the buildings. Traditional/Religious headwear, as well as protective hairstyles commonly or historically associated with race, are allowed.
• Shoes must be worn at all times. *Closed-toe shoes may be required in science labs and PE class.
• Any clothing, jewelry, accessories and tattoos that contain any words, symbols, or pictures that include any of the following: references to sex, drugs, tobacco, alcohol, weapons, obscenities, profanities, as well as anything vulgar, lewd, legally slanderous, distracting, and/or dangerous are prohibited and must be removed or covered.

Please read our entire CEC Student Dress Code policy by clicking on the button below.

Questions about whether a clothing item is out of dress code should be addressed with a CEC Leadership Team member before the item is worn.

WATER BOTTLES
Our students get thirsty and need to hydrate throughout the day, but we need to remember that our water fountains are temporarily not to be used and our water bottles in the health office are reserved for our students with any health related visits.

Please remind your student to bring their water bottles to school clearly labeled with their name. They are able to refill these bottles throughout the day at our water refill dispenser located on the 3rd floor main hallway. Only water is allowed in classrooms.
MEDICATION REMINDER
FROM THE HEALTH OFFICE
Prescription medication cannot be carried by students at CEC Fort Collins Middle School except for emergency medications like inhalers and epi-pens. The student must have the Medication Authorization Form on file in the health office signed by physician, parent, and school nurse. Responsible students can carry over-the-counter medications if they are in original packaging. Over-the-counter medication carried by the student must only be one day’s supply. For example, DO NOT send an entire bottle of ibuprofen. This is a privilege and can be revoked.  Medications must be kept on their person and not shared with peers. Keeping medication on their person means they cannot drop medication on the floor, lose medication at a desk, etc, it must remain in their backpack until such time as it is needed.
ATTENDANCE LINE
If your student will be late, absent, or will need to leave early, please call our attendance line at (970) 682-2007.

You may also email attendance at FCMSattendance@coloradoearlycolleges.org. Please be sure to give the date, student's name, grade, and reason for absence.

Attendance will be updated within 24-48 hours.
SILENT LUNCHES
The stoplight in our cafeteria measures the volume in the room. When it hits 85 decibels, the light turns red (sound levels over 85 db can be harmful). We allow ten "hits in the red" before we institute silent lunch. (Students are not required to be silent once on the playground.)
Our goal each year is for students to learn to monitor themselves so that they can talk with their friends during lunch without disrupting other classes that are in session. This year we have a particularly high noise level on some days. Please encourage your child to talk at a lower level during lunch time so as not to disrupt other classes.
SUBSTITUTES NEEDED!
CECFC Middle School and High School are looking for on-call substitutes to add to our subbing pool! As a sub, you are responsible for taking attendance and facilitating the teacher's learning plan. And you get to hang out with awesome students! Most often, you will have a few days notice of needs, so you know your schedule ahead of time. Please click on the button to fill out an application!

COVID-19 PROTOCOLS AND UPDATES
COVID-19 Safety Protocols
  • Face coverings are not required for students and staff; however, facemasks are recommended to be worn by unvaccinated individuals and those that feel more comfortable doing so.
  • CEC will be supportive of individuals that choose or need to wear masks. It is expected that every member of the CEC community will respect each other's decisions on these subjects.
  • We will continue to encourage hand washing and frequent cleaning of high touch areas.
  • Increased ventilation and use of outdoor spaces will be implemented whenever possible.
  • Any staff or students experiencing symptoms should stay home, this is the most important practice to limit quarantines of students and staff this year. CECFC will follow CDPHE’s updated Return to Learn Guidance for determining when students and staff can return to school. Students who are home sick can still access their classes through Microsoft Teams or the community college portal. Students should check course syllabi for requirements regarding absences in each of their courses.
  • Information on the number of positive/probable cases among staff and students will be provided in the weekly newsletter. If your student is in class with a positive/probable case you will be contacted by the school so you are aware of the exposure.
  • CEC’s virtual program is available for any students wishing to learn remotely this year. More information can be found here: CECFC Online Learning.
