A NOTE FROM OUR HEAD OF SCHOOL
Dear CECFC MS Families,
In light of the recent tragic events in Georgia, we want to take a moment to reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of our students and staff at CECFC Middle School. As part of our ongoing efforts, we have implemented several comprehensive safety measures:
School Security Officer: We maintain a dedicated School Security Officer on campus who is highly trained and vigilant. Their presence ensures that our school remains a secure environment for everyone.
- Regular Safety Drills: Each month, we conduct safety drills to prepare our students and staff for various emergency scenarios. These drills help us practice evacuation procedures, lockdown protocols, and other critical safety responses.
- I Love You Guys Protocol: We follow the nationally recognized “I Love You Guys” safety protocol. This standardized approach ensures clear communication during emergencies and helps us work together effectively to protect our school community. Collaboration with Local Authorities: We have established strong partnerships with our local police department, sheriff’s department, and the City of Fort Collins. These collaborations allow us to coordinate responses swiftly and efficiently. Comprehensive Safety Plan: Our detailed safety plan covers a wide range of scenarios, from natural disasters to potential threats. This plan has been shared with our teachers, staff, and relevant authorities to ensure a coordinated effort in safeguarding our students.

PLEASE COMPLETE THE FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH FORM – EVEN THOUGH MEALS ARE FREE!
CEFC Families, we are excited to share that all students will receive one free breakfast and lunch daily through the Healthy School Meals for All program! This statewide program, approved by Colorado voters, is helping Colorado children and teens have access to nutritious food at our school.
Even though breakfast and lunch will be provided for free, we need families to continue sharing household income information through the Free and Reduced Meal Benefits form in so that we can receive full access to federal funding. These additional funds will go directly back to CECFC Middle School to help cover the cost of meals and other nutritional programs. Plus, families who qualify may receive discounted school activity fees, community activity fees, utilities support and more! As always, all household income information will be kept confidential, and protected by law. Immigration, migrant, citizenship or refugee status is not required when completing the form.
This information also allows us to apply for more GRANTS, which allows us to provide additional programming and services for your child. So PLEASE complete the APPLICATION today!
Please fill out ALL required information in the application. Incomplete applications cannot be processed. Only one application per household is required. Applications may also be picked up in the Front Office.

KITCHEN VOLUNTEERS & STAFF NEEDED
The Nutrition department is actively seeking temporary volunteers and permanent kitchen staff for the upcoming school year. They urgently need consistent assistance with dishwashing, serving, and cleanup. Additionally, they need a volunteer to transport food from the High School to the Middle School and manage the Point-of-Sale system. Our Food Service Team is collaborating closely with HR to expedite the hiring process, but in the meantime, we need YOUR HELP! If you are interetested, please contact Pam Cailteux at (970) 377-0044 x 10126. We greatly appreciate your support in advance!

- We shared information last week about understanding the changes your teenager or tween’s brain is experiencing and how it manifests in behaviors you might see.
| |
This week, we want to share strategies for keeping your teen safe and supporting your relationship with them at the same time. One strategy to keep in mind during this phase of development is to help them learn EMOTION REGULATION: support and help them develop ways to regulate emotions in a way that offers relief and does no harm.
Here are some key techniques:
- Talking about feelings works! AKA “venting” – The “talking it out” phenomenon works as it offers adolescents insight as they process and relief as they move through emotions. Help them get specific about what feelings they are having by asking them name the feelings. Open up conversations somewhere not necessarily face-to-face like driving or walking or even texting.
- Listening, REALLY listening, matters. Imagine you are interviewing your teen for an article. To show that you are attentive, offer a summary of what they said and how they are feeling (but don’t try to solve or fix the issue).
-
Empathy goes further than we think. Deliver empathetic words with the full confidence that your compassion alone may deliver sufficient psychological relief. “No wonder you are feeling so down.” “What you are describing sounds terrible.”, “I’m sorry to hear that”. Here’s a great video describing Empathy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HznVuCVQd10
-
Recognize healthy and unhealthy emotional expression. Recognize that teens sometimes use quirky but adaptive techniques to get their feelings out. Also, know that sometimes teens discharge their emotions in ways that are real grounds for concern – this definitely warrants help from therapeutic professionals. There is a lot more information on this from the book “Emotional Lives of Teenagers” by Lisa Damour or see this website: https://positivepsychology.com/unhealthy-coping-mechanisms/

INTERESTED IN VOLUNTEERING?
Please contact Mrs. King at lori.king@coloradoearlycolleges.org if you are interested in volunteer opportunities. We need classroom volunteers, school dance volunteers, events volunteers, cafeteria volunteers, kitchen volunteers, volunteers for field trips and off campus events, and more! Research shows that parents have a major influence on their child's achievement, and volunteering at school is a great way for parents to positively impact student achievement.
Ms. Lerner is the McKinney Vento Liaison. Please see below for more information about that program.
