From Head of School, Lacey Scadden
Our staff and students returned from break refreshed, renewed, and ready to finish the semester strong. This week we are doing our Winter NWEA MAPS testing as our midyear benchmark to measure growth internally. This benchmark helps us set goals for students as we prepare for the state CMAS test in the spring. This year we have the goal to see all students grow at least one year academically. For students showing slow growth, we will plan for extra support in the spring. We are looking for local volunteers to come work with students on reading and math skills to assure one year's growth. We know that an individualized approach to learning will foster the most growth. We also encourage more reading at home! My favorite is when my children read to me while I am cooking dinner or folding laundry. While we are still battling learning loss from the pandemic, we are moving forward with preparing our students for high school. Our hope is to set students up for the best success possible.

Introducing....Reader’s Theater! Elevate Plus is a class where we work on many life skills. Elevate Plus class is working on a Reader’s Theater of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” A special Reader’s Theater script of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” will be divided into various parts or “roles” for the students. Reader’s Theater is a FUN way to increase reading fluency and expression in our student’s oral reading skills!
