Learning of a high level

From Head of School, Lacey Scadden
During the first month of school we have been focusing on building routines. Routines are important for effective classrooms and having a positive impact on learning. Routines establish predictability, create a safe learning environment, teach citizenship and respect. We also want to encourage routines at home, especially around a sleep schedule. Adolescents who do not get enough sleep are at higher risk for health and behavior issues. Middle school aged children should regularly get 9-12 hours of sleep. Setting up routines at home to support healthy sleep patterns will improve student health and achievement. Please check out this link from the CDC on Sleep for Middle and High School Students.

Art:
We are looking for donations of old jeans, clean egg cartons, and 3-ring binders. We will use the jeans for future sewing projects and the egg cartons are being reused for paint palettes. We will pull the binders apart (so we don't need new binders) and use the parts for different art projects. We appreciate all art supply donations!
Theatre:
Theatre is in need of specific stage props for our play that is in rehearsals – “Sherlock Holmes and the Deathly Howl”. If you are willing to let us borrow items for a couple of months, please let me know by email or TEAMS contact/chat. Some examples of what will be needed....dark suit coat for young man, trench coat or such for Sherlock Holmes, large magnifying glass for Holmes, Tea tray or tea set, rain stick, paint for set making. More requests to come. Thank you.

STEM students are making Projectile launchers. They built a basic one and now they are building the improved version designed by themselves. They will be testing the launchers for its accuracy and precision.
Silent Lunches
The stoplight in our cafeteria measures the volume in the room. When it hits 85 decibels, the light turns red (sound levels over 85 db can be harmful). We allow ten "hits in the red" before we institute silent lunch. (Students are not required to be silent once on the playground.)
Our goal each year is for students to learn to monitor themselves so that they can talk with their friends during lunch without disrupting other classes that are in session. This year we have a particularly high noise level on some days. Please encourage your child to talk at a lower level during lunch time so as not to disrupt other classes.
Tips for Supporting Teens’
Mental Health This Fall
Beginning of the day drop off procedure: Please have your student here by 7:50. If they are not here by that time, have them go through the front office to pick up their late pass before heading to class.
End of the day pick up procedure: Pick up is until 3:20. If your student is not picked up by that time, they will be waiting for you in the front office.
Picking up students for appointments?
Attendance questions?

Procedure for picking up students during school hours:
Please have your child pick up a pass from Mrs LeFevre, our Attendance Monitor BEFORE class and have your child give it to the teacher whose class they will be leaving. This will minimize disruption to the teacher and the class and Mrs LeFevre will know when to pull your child from class.
For your student's safety, we will only permit people listed in your Infinite Campus Relationships to pick up your child and they will need to sign out at Reception. A note from the provider should be sent with your child the next day and handed to Mrs LeFevre if you wish the absence to be excused.
She may be reached at the Attendance Line at (970) 666-4032 or at marika.lefevre@coloradoearlycolleges.org. Voicemail messages are checked throughout the day.
If your child is late or unable to make it to school, please call the attendance line (970) 666-4032 and leave a message. Please refer to the Student and Family Handbook for more detailed information.
