January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month & Stalking Awareness Month

Human trafficking involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to induce someone to engage in commercial sex or labor/services. It can happen to people of all ages, identities, and backgrounds and happens right here in CT. Last year alone, CEE served over 30 individuals who were suspected or identified as victims of human trafficking. Stalking is a serious crime that impacts millions of people each year and is often linked to domestic violence and sexual violence.

Empowerment Story

At the request of several schools, we brought our education program on identifying grooming behaviors to address this issue and provide intervention and support for youth. After one of the grooming programs, a young teen disclosed to the CEE staff member that she had been sexually assaulted by an adult in her church. The CEE staff member was able to make a DCF report and connect with the school social worker to provide support to the student.
