August 24 | Governor Abbott Statement On Federal Approval For Lost Wages Assistance Funds
AUSTIN - Governor Greg Abbott today issued a statement after the federal government approved nearly $1.4 billion in initial funds made available through President Trump’s Lost Wage Assistance Executive Order. This funding will provide an additional $300 per week in benefits for qualifying Texans receiving unemployment benefits. The Texas Workforce Commission applied for these funds earlier this week. August 24 | TABC enacts emergency changes to FB License requirements to help businesses on the verge of permanent closure

The Texas Restaurant Association continues to work closely with TABC and the Governor’s office to safely reopen Texas. TABC adopted emergency amendments to the rules that define who may operate with a food and beverage certificate. Governor Abbott’s executive order, will allow more businesses to reopen during the COVID-19 recovery. Read More.

Safeguarding America’s Frontline Employees To Offer Work Opportunities Required to Kickstart the Economy Act’’ or Safe to Work Act | To lessen the burdens on interstate commerce by discouraging insubstantial lawsuits relating to COVID–19 while preserving the ability of individuals and businesses that have suffered real injury to obtain complete relief. | Senators John Cornyn for Mitch McConnell
 
American Workers, Families, and Employers Assistance 6 Act aka CARES 2.0 | To provide assistance to American workers, families, and employers during the COVID–19 pandemic | Senator Chuck Grassley
 
Supporting Americas Restaurant Workers Act | amends the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to temporarily expand the deduction for business meals provided at a restaurant | Senator Tim Scott

Paycheck Protection Program Small Business Enhancement Act |
H.R.7894 - Would require the SBA Administrator to establish a program to provide certain borrowers with a second loan under the PPP, to modify the eligibility and forgiveness requirement of the program, and for other purposes. Read More.
The Government Affairs Council serves as an advocate for Member businesses and their employees before municipal, county, state, and federal officials on political policy issues impacting the economic growth, quality of life, and financial health of local industries. The Council informs and educates Members on proposed initiatives, policies, and legislation which may affect the way business in San Antonio is conducted.
September 1 | Joint Meeting of the Government Affairs and Workforce Councils
San Antonio Councilwoman Adriana Rocha Garcia will join us for a joint meeting of the Government Affairs Council and Workforce Council. She will focus her comments on the proposed 1/8 cent sales tax that would be used to fund workforce development.

The Infrastructure Council serves as a resource and strategic advocate for San Antonio regional infrastructure planning and development to improve the quality of life for our members and stakeholders.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), chairman of the Subcommittee on Aviation and Space, today sent a letter to Secretary of the Air Force advocating for the cities of Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio to be selected to host U.S. Space Command Headquarters (USSPACECOM HQ) after the Air Force announced that these Texas cities would continue to the evaluation phase of the selection process. San Antonio Economic Development Foundation launched a digital campaign in the Bay Area and D.C. aimed specifically at attracting headquarters operations.

The quadrennial survey asked Texas members to rank the most important issues facing their small businesses. The cost of health insurance, property taxes, and finding qualified job applicants remain constant concerns for Texas small business owners despite economic conditions, according to the 2020 NFIB Problems and Priorities Survey. The data, collected just prior to the COVID-19 health and economic crisis, reflect owners’ views four years into one of the largest U.S. economic expansions. Read More.
