A Season of Gratitude and Growth at GCSS

As we enter the holiday season at Gulf Coast Social Services, our calendars — and our hearts — are full. In fact, there’s so much happening across our regions that we’re bringing you two editions of the CEO’s Corner this November. This month, we celebrate community partnerships, staff leadership, inclusive events, and meaningful transitions that reflect the very best of who we are as an organization.

From New Orleans to Lafayette, Houma to Baton Rouge, and here at Central Office, our teams have been busy creating joyful, accessible spaces for the individuals and families we serve. Whether it’s sponsoring the Autism Society of Greater New Orleans’ Inclusive Halloween Party, cheering on our Lafayette team’s recognition of National Down Syndrome Awareness Month, joining local schools and partners for safe trick-or-treat events, or hosting our Adult Day Habilitation and office-wide Halloween celebrations, each effort reinforces our commitment to dignity, inclusion, and connection. We also pause to honor and thank two incredible leaders—Pamela Moore and Brenda Melancon—as they enter retirement after years of faithful service that helped build the foundation we stand on today.

And stay tuned: in our next edition, we’ll spotlight the outstanding success of our Houma Mac N Cheese Fest, a powerful example of what happens when community, creativity, and our mission all come together.

Thank you to every staff member who continues to show up with creativity, compassion, and heart. I’m proud of the work you do and excited to share even more of your stories in this special two-part November edition.

🎃Halloween Highlights Across GCSS🎃

Halloween was full of creativity, connection, and community spirit across all GCSS regions! From Baton Rouge to New Orleans, our teams came together to make the season special for the individuals and families we serve.

In Baton Rouge, the Adult Day Habilitation Program hosted its annual Halloween Party, complete with festive games like musical chairs, pin the eye on the zombie, egg-on-the-spoon, and ring toss. Program Director Durrell Collins transformed the space into a spooky Haunted House that everyone enjoyed!

Meanwhile, in New Orleans, clients joined in the fun by trick-or-treating with the Administrative Staff, spreading laughter and smiles throughout the office. Both staff and clients embraced the spirit of inclusion and celebration, reminding us that joy is at the heart of everything we do.

And across other GCSS regions, our teams participated in community events, like the Autism Society of Greater New Orleans’ Inclusive Halloween Party, promoting awareness, acceptance, and togetherness.

This Halloween season, GCSS truly showcased what it means to serve with heart, creating inclusive spaces where everyone can celebrate safely, joyfully, and together.

Celebrating the Retirements of Pamela Moore

and Brenda Melancon

This week, we had the bittersweet honor of celebrating the retirements of two remarkable members of our team, Pamela Moore and Brenda Melancon, whose dedication and contributions have left a lasting impact on our organization.

On Wednesday, November 5th, we celebrated Pam with a special lunch, bringing together colleagues to honor her incredible career. Later in the day, we surprised Pam at the office with a gathering that included our New Orleans team, a beautifully decorated cake, and a heartfelt presentation of a plaque recognizing her 27 years of dedicated service. Pam’s commitment, professionalism, and unwavering support over nearly three decades have been an inspiration to all who have had the pleasure of working with her. Her warmth, guidance, and positive spirit have touched the lives of many, and she will be greatly missed.

On Friday, November 7th, we had the privilege of celebrating Brenda’s retirement with a lunch in her honor. Brenda began her journey with GCSS in 1987, dedicating nearly four decades to supporting our mission and team. Over the years, her expertise, kindness, and collaborative approach have been invaluable. Brenda has consistently gone above and beyond, offering guidance and support to colleagues while fostering a welcoming and productive environment. While we will miss her energy and dedication in the office, we are thrilled for Brenda as she begins this exciting new chapter of her life.

Both Pam and Brenda exemplify the very best of our organization. Their hard work, loyalty, and commitment to excellence have shaped our team and left a legacy that will be remembered for years to come. We are grateful for their many contributions and wish them both happiness, health, and adventure in their well-deserved retirements.

Thank you, Pam and Brenda, for everything. You will always be part of our Gulf Coast family.

Building Connections Through Community Events

This fall, GCSS staff across Louisiana have been busy strengthening partnerships and supporting local families through various community events. From health fairs to fall festivals, each gathering showcased the compassion and dedication that define Gulf Coast Social Services.

In Donaldsonville, the GCSS team participated in the Community Fall Fest, sponsored by Aetna Better Health and the River Road African American Museum. The event brought families and local organizations together for a day of fun, learning, and wellness, complete with valuable health screenings and community resources.

Earlier in the month, GCSS also participated in a Fall Festival sponsored by Aetna, where staff members connected with community members, shared information about GCSS programs, and helped promote access to vital services.

These events reflect GCSS’s ongoing commitment to partnership, inclusion, and empowerment, ensuring that every individual and family we serve feels supported, informed, and connected.
