CEO Update: Expanding ICU care

Citizens Memorial Hospital’s new ICU will open in March 2026 with 16 ICU-capable rooms and advanced technology to care for more patients close to home. This expansion will give our ICU team more space and new tools to provide top-level care for the community.

Auxiliary nut and candy sale: Oct. 27-28

  • When: 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, and 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28.
  • Where: Kerry & Synda Douglas Medical Center, 1155 W. Parkview Street, Bolivar.
  • What: The CMH Auxiliary fundraiser features a variety of nuts, chocolate and candies. Proceeds support special projects at CMH.

Lights of Remembrance

  • When: 5:15 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10.
  • Where: Kerry and Synda Douglas Medical Center, 1155 W. Parkview Street, Bolivar.
  • What: Community members are encouraged to donate to the Lights of Remembrance program in honor of friends and family or in memory of loved ones. The event includes special music and the presentation of special awards. Donate and learn more online.

Online Men’s Health Seminar

  • When: 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12.
  • Where: Online.
  • What: FREE online Men’s Health Seminar presented by board-certified urologist Mark Walterskirchen, M.D., with CMH Urology Surgical Clinic, Bolivar. The webinar will focus on Aquablation® therapy, a new, minimally invasive treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), also known as enlarged prostate. CMH is among the first hospitals in the area to offer the minimally invasive procedure that uses a robotically controlled waterjet to remove excess prostate tissue without heat. Dialysis Center open house and ribbon-cutting

  • When: 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16. Ribbon-cutting at 1 p.m.
  • Where: 1160 W. Parkview Street, Bolivar.
  • What: Tour the new facility, meet staff and learn more about the comprehensive kidney care services available through the CMH Dialysis Center and CMH Nephrology Clinic. Light refreshments will be served. RSVP online or by calling 417-328-6401 by Dec. 15, 2025.

Can you recognize the signs of a stroke?

Strokes can happen to anyone, at any age. Globally, about one in four adults over the age of 25 will have a stroke in their lifetime. Stroke is treatable if you call 911 as soon as you recognize the symptoms. Use the BE FAST acronym to spot the signs of a stroke:


  • Balance: Loss of balance, headache or dizziness.
  • Eyes: Blurred vision.
  • Face: One side of the face is drooping.
  • Arms: Arm or leg weakness.
  • Speech: Speech difficulty.
  • Time: Time to call for an ambulance immediately.


Other possible symptoms to be aware of include sudden numbness, confusion, trouble seeing, trouble walking and a severe headache.
