June 2025

Dear Friends,

We had such a wonderful time visiting with all 700 (or so) of you who attended CEOC's May 3rd Stronger Together Block Party commemorating our 60th anniversary.

You may have seen our colorful Community Quilt at the event, where we asked community members to write responses to prompts related to how we all make Cambridge stronger together. One of the prompts was: What is one thing you will do to fight poverty in Cambridge?

If you're still thinking about how you can commit to the fight against poverty, we hope you will consider a contribution to CEOC today. Just click here or on the top right button above.

Thank you for your support!

Executive Director

CEOC Honored in Mayor's Proclamation

On April 28th, Mayor Denise Simmons honored CEOC with a proclamation at City Council, recognizing our 60 years of service fighting poverty in Cambridge. Mayor Simmons also spoke to the power of CEOC's work and our impact in our community at our 60th anniversary block party.

We thank the City for this honor and for being our invaluable partner for six decades. Click here to read the many accomplishments noted in the proclamation.

  • U.S. Representative Ayanna Pressley
  • U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren

Cambridge Youth Council and CRLS Black Student Union Raise $17,000+ for CEOC!

The Cambridge Rindge and Latin School Black Student Union (top photo) and Cambridge Youth Council (bottom photo) raised more than $17,000 for CEOC this spring in support of CEOC's “unwavering commitment to help end poverty in Cambridge.”

We want to thank the motivated student leaders who ran this campaign, the 57 individual supporters who contributed, and the Cambridge Community Foundation, who donated a generous $5,000 match from their Teaching Philanthropy Fund. These vital funds will make a huge difference to Cambridge neighbors who need assistance with groceries, housing, health insurance, financial counseling, and mental health.

2025 Nonprofit Leadership Award Finalist: Tina Alu!

We're very excited to announce that Executive Director Tina Alu was named as a 2025 Nonprofit Excellence Award finalist (Leadership category).

Every year, the Massachusetts Nonprofit Network honors six nonprofit organizations and employees who exemplify the most innovative, creative, and effective work being done throughout the Commonwealth. Winners will be recognized on June 18 at the New England Aquarium. Congratulations to Tina and all of the finalists!

Financial Coaching Credentials

Congratulations to CEOC Community Advocates and Educators Rabeya Akther and Anna Minaya, who have been accepted into the Financial Empowerment Learning Institute training program "Money Management Essentials."

Thanks to The United Way of Massachusetts Bay and The Midas Collaborative, we are building our capacity to promote economic empowerment for our community. Anna and Rabeya are already successful Financial Freedom Party facilitators, but with the additional skills and credentials from this AFCPE Money Management Essentials course, they will further strengthen CEOC's financial coaching services.
