CHANGING HUMAN, FINANCIAL, AND SUPPLY CHAIN
I NFORMATION MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS
by Richard George
Many organizations have or are considering moving from on premise back office systems such as, Human Capital Management (HCM), Financial Management Systems (FMS), Supply Chain Management systems (SCM), to systems that are available in the Cloud such as Software as a Service (SaaS). This presentation will present research findings from 1,600 organizations on what back office systems they are using, why they are making a change and some misconceptions about both. Many are moving to SaaS due to update costs, operations, staffing levels, mobility, and the total cost of ownership (TCO). Research has revealed some surprising data which show that on premise systems may have some unexpected life left in them when features are enabled to provide end users with an intuitive and mobile platform. This presentation will be an exciting venture in to enterprise, financial, supply chain, management, and information systems.

Technology Readiness Level
If you have ever wondered how to determine how far an idea or prototype is from becoming a finished product ready for manufacturing, the Technology Readiness Assessment is one method to do just that. The Technology Readiness Levels form a nine-level scale initially developed by NASA in 1970s. The first level on the scale is "Basic principles observed and reported". This level is for the initial, back-of-the-napkin brainstorming that can be the genesis of a successful project. At the opposite end of the scale, TRL 9 denotes "Actual system 'flight proven' through successful mission operations". And after TRL 2, every step to a new level is punctuated by a test or series of tests that can be documented and recorded as the design matures.
Assessing the readiness of a design is an important tool to ensure you have completed the steps necessary to move your design toward production. A proper design assessment can allow a team to calculate where they are and when they could reach the finish line. It also allows groups to budget appropriately to make sure the finish line is in reach and that their prototype will fly over it rather than fall short.  Reference Links: WikipediaDOE G 413.3-4A
