2025 ISO-NE Peak Load Hour and CES Self-Help Program Recap

By Andy Price, President & CEO

There was little suspense as we waited for the Independent System Operator of New England (ISO-NE) to formally identify the annual peak load for 2025. Temperatures on June 24 hit 100 degrees Fahrenheit across much of New England and electricity demand spiked to the highest level since 2013, as air conditioners struggled to keep pace. COLD WEATHER MONTHS | How CES Helps Clients Power Through

By Zack Hallock, Senior Energy Services Advisor

Focusing on seasonal and annual weather patterns may not be top of mind, but for some of us at Competitive Energy Services (CES) it’s critical to keep on the front burner. Whether we like it or not, climate trends and seasonal weather patterns are a critical focus when it comes to the world of energy rates on the real-time or futures market. Seasonal weather drives business consumer behavior patterns that push the energy demand conversation. More specifically, weather drives energy consumption in the wintertime, most often in a predictable manner. As winter approaches, CES actively consults internal teams and external experts to evaluate and compare upcoming weather predictions. Throughout the year, winter conditions remain a key focus in New England as we monitor past and projected weather cycles. CES and our clients are as prepared as possible for seasonal impacts and shifting commodity scenarios by staying in close contact with local and national weather experts, suppliers, and even local climate enthusiasts.

DAAS | The Impact of ISO-NE's Initiative on Electricity Users

ISO New England's (ISO NE) Day-Ahead Ancillary Services (DAAS) Initiative went live in March of 2025. DAAS created a new market for on demand generation needed to keep the electricity grid stable and reliable, such as operating reserves. The new market takes the place of some existing ancillary service products and allows these services to be purchased on a day-ahead basis, which is intended to improve operating reserve and imbalance readiness, efficiency, and price formation before the actual operating day begins.

Learn more about DAAS and its impact on electricity users by listening to this short video, featuring Larry Pignataro, Director of Strategic Partnerships & Senior Energy Services Advisor, Competitive Energy Services. Feel free to reach out to Larry or any of our Energy Services Advisors to talk about DAAS or any of your energy-related questions.
