Californians for Arts and Music Education in Public Schools Launch
This measure will transform Arts and Music education in California by providing nearly $1 Billion a year in dedicated funding for public schools to use for arts and music education. This is the funding we’ve been fighting for to provide more arts and music teachers, training and supplies to ensure our students receive this critical piece of their development and education.

Our first goal: collect as many signatures from your colleagues as possible by February 11. Petition packets are in the mail and heading your way with petitions, explanatory materials and postage-paid envelopes to return as many signatures as you can.

Our next goal: organize your school community to collect signatures from parents and other arts education supporters. We’ll have more information on that in the days ahead.

Here’s how you can help now:

  • Collect 10 signatures or more from your school colleagues and friends by February 11, 2022 to be entered to win a $1,000 gift certificate for new classroom supplies from an arts or music store of your choice.
  • For every 10 signatures you collect, your name will be entered to win. For example, if you collect 30 signatures, you will be entered 3 times and triple your chances of winning!!!

  • Share your story and/or volunteer to be a media spokesperson. We are looking for support in gathering stories–and your voices–so that we can share the impact that arts and music education can have with the media and the public. Please complete a quick 5-minute survey at Story.VoteArtsAndMinds.org to indicate whether you might be willing to support our media effort and/or share a story about your experience. The campaign team will then reach out directly.

STAND UP FOR ARTS EDUCATION
CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY MONTH
BACKGROUND: In 1926 Dr. Carter G. Woodson instituted the first week-long celebration to raise awareness of African Americans’ contributions to history. Prior to this time, little information could be found regarding African American history. Important achievements were left out of history books, and there was a general misconception that African Americans had made little contribution to U.S. society or history. 50 years later, the week became a month, and today February is celebrated as African American History Month. ADVOCACY
This is a critical moment in the movement for every student's right to creative expression. Arts programs provide outlets for expression, build resiliency and improve academic performance. Students in your school district should have access to these opportunities. Take action now: Learn about the role of parents, students and community members to serve as advocates and to convince decision makers about the value of arts education. You will walk away with ready-to-use tools from Create CA, CA PTA, Arts for LA and Arts Education Alliance of the Bay Area that will support you in advocating for a creative education for all students in your district. Will Goldyn was nominated by his students and was further honored by the Fulfillment Fund organization as one of the top educators in Los Angeles. Being a proud member of DTASC, EdTA (Go Troupe #7573!), and CETA for many years, he is very excited to join the CETA board. He is a National Board Certified Teacher and a Center Theatre Group Bravo award recipient who has directed over 48 high school productions, including the CETA’s award-winning productions of Joe Turner’s Come and Gone, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Steel Magnolias, and Noises Off, as well as the Jerry Herman’s Best Musical nominee In The Heights. Will's MA thesis production of The Crucible was selected to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. Besides receiving an MA in Theatre Education from the University of Northern Colorado, he was also educated in Prague and Vienna, being one of only fifteen teachers in the US to earn the National Endowment for the Humanities Scholarship that year. He currently teaches all levels of acting, directing, and speech at Grand Arts, or Ramon C. Cortines School of Visual and Performing Arts. Will married his prom date, Nancy, (14 years later!) and they have two children, Liam (14) and Maya (12).
